The San Francisco 49ers beat the Detroit Lions Sunday afternoon http://www.sanfrancisco49ersteamonline.com/deforest-buckner-jersey , holding them off to get in the win column in Week 2. The 49ers looked like they were going to roll through Detroit, holding a 30-13 at one point. Instead, things went south and it took a desperate last defensive hold to secure a 30-27 victory. The team travels east this coming weekend to face a Kansas City Chiefs squad that is operating the hottest offense in the league. Patrick Mahomes is breaking records, and nobody can figure out how to consistently stop him and Tyreek Hill. Even with the Chiefs defense struggling on its own, this game represents a tough challenge for the 49ers. Monday is a day to wrap up the previous day’s game and begin preparations for the coming week. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will meet with the media at 4 p.m. PT to discuss all that. The team seemed to get out of their Week 2 win relatively healthy, but we’ll be looking for an update on Jaquiski Tartt’s status after he injured his shoulder later in the game. The 49ers will stream the press conferences Twitter, Facebook, and the team’s app. The 49ers beat writers will also have updates from the media sessions. I’ve embedded our beat writer Twitter list so you can follow along. We’ll have a transcript later today.A Twitter List by NinersNationJuice Check, Week 1: Breaking down his work vs. the Vikings It sounds like a joke, claiming that San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is the key to the offense of his fellow Kyle (Shanahan). And some otherwise intelligent people can’t get over how much the Harvard-educated blocking back is getting paid. But I stand by that statement. Generally, Shanny’s scheme is all about being multiple, all the time. Any player allowed to touch the football can score on you, on any play, even a blocking TE such as Levine Toilolo. More specifically, 2-back formations including Juice pressure teams to keep their base defense on the field Womens Alfred Morris Jersey , allowing Shanahan to pass against a slower, heavier lineup. Of course, if they switch to a nickel defense, it’s that much easier to pound the ball down their throat behind his grade-paving. Anything is possible on nearly any play, giving Shanahan the upper hand in the chess game against defensive coordinators. So I’m tracking Juice play by play this year, and will check in from time to time with reports on how he is being used. Why? Because I can (spell his name). And considering Jerick McKinnon’s absence from the passing game, it opens up a lot of possibilities for Juice and others.By my count in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, Juszczyk was in on 28 offensive plays and 4 on special teams, all punt coverage. Two of his offensive snaps were called back on penalties, but the play ran so I’m including them in this analysis. It was impressive how varied his formations were. He lined up as an I-formation fullback on 18 of those 28 snaps, though he motioned to an inline spot (like a TE at one or the other end of the offensive line) on three of those. He was inline all the way three other times, in the slot thrice (but motioned out on two of them), and a split back or lone tail back twice each. It’s clear that Juszczyk’s main role remains blocking; he ran just nine routes on his 28 snaps, targeted twice, with his huge 56-yard play the most memorable. With 10:41 left in the 3rd quarter Womens Marquise Goodwin Jersey ,Shanahan motioned Juice into the right slot, and Jimmy Garoppolo faked a hand off to Alfred Morris running to his right. The fullback ran up to OLB Ben Gedeon as if he were going to block him on a screen pass to Morris, but he let Gedeon “evade” him to focus on the running back, and ran down the sideline wide open for a 29-yard reception. Then he added a nifty cutback to grab another 27 yards after the catch — the total of 56 yards was the biggest for either team all night.Shanahan had set this up with a first quarter play where Juszczyk also lined up in the right slot and blocked Gedeon on a outside zone run to the right. His other target, in the red zone, came on what was designed to look like a “split zone” play, where he (or more often a tight end) runs opposite the play’s flow to block a backside linebacker or lineman from chasing down the runner from behind. Instead he ran a drag route and was open, but Garoppolo’s pass on a naked bootleg was at his toes, uncatchable. If Jimmy G had hit the FB in stride, it looked good for at least ten yards down to the five yard line, and possibly a touchdown.Even when he wasn’t targeted, Juice’s route running was valuable in attacking the defense. His 3rd quarter wheel route drew S Harrison Smith deep down the right sideline, allowing QB Jimmy Garoppolo to run left (safely) and pick up the first down. At 8:53 of the first quarter, on the 49ers third play, Shanahan motioned the FB to line up wide left www.the49ersfootballauthentic.com , drawing CB Trae Waynes out to cover him on a go route. That left TE George Kittle in the slot facing DE Everson Griffen, who drew a defensive holding penalty (hands to the face) trying to jam him at the line. Most of Juszczyk’s snaps were good old-fashioned lead blocking on runs, though. He had just three plays in pass protection, and one was excellent; on George Kittle’s deep drop at 10:57 of the 3Q, which should have been a huge play, he picked up Danielle Hunter who was running free on the far side of the pocket, giving Garoppolo enough time to get his pass off. Juice failed to seal off a couple of defenders on runs but was mostly excellent, including a pancake of Anthony Barr at 9:28 of the second quarter. While Juszczyk is an all-around “offensive weapon,” Shanahan hasn’t quite reached his goal of being able to pass or run with any lineup. In the 4th quarter when the Niners were passing as they attempted to come back, Juice only played four snaps, and one of those was on punt coverage. The team only ran twice when he was on the bench; Shanny apparently preferred 11 personnel or even empty set to the blocking-plus-occasional-pass that the younger Kyle brings. As the season develops, it will be interesting to see how Juszczyk is used. Will he pick up a few snaps running the ball himself, given McKinnon’s injury? Can he become a major receiver, or is he more valuable forcing CBs to cover him and leaving linebackers on Dante Pettis and Marquise Goodwin? The Juice Check column will be here to let you know.

Giants news New York Giants Hats , games. That puts him on pace for a career-high 120 receptions. Which sounds nice until you realize his longest reception has been 24 yards and his 10.8 yards per catch average is 3.2 yards per catch below his career average of 14.0 yards per catch. The deep ball has been missing from the Giants’ offense. Eli Manning has completed 56 passes, but only one of them -- a 37-yarder to Cody Latimer last Sunday night in Dallas -- gained more than 25 yards.“It just hasn’t happened,” Beckham said today of the deep balls. “We had some shots, but we just didn’t connect on them. It’s all happening so fast, these first two games. Get the jitters out of the way, and get the season going.“It’s easier said than done. Like Coach said, you don’t just want to throw them into coverage and stuff like that, but just finding ways to get the ball into the hands of the playmakers and allow us to make plays and keep the ball moving, keep this offense going in the right direction.”“I think we need to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers the right way,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “The first game, Odell touched it a bunch (15 targets, plus a rushing attempt). Last game, Saquon (Barkley) touched it 25 times. Really, it doesn’t matter if we’re running it or throwing it to him, he touched the ball 25 times. We’ve got to do a better job in all areas so there’s a little bit more space, I get that, but it’s certainly important to get the ball to your playmakers and we will continue to do that the best we can.”“We want to obviously get him (Beckham) involved,” offensive coordinator Mike Shula said. “He’s such a productive player for us and get him involved early, so I think it’s just – the easiest thing to say is yeah we got to game plan that, but he and Eli, they have such a good feel for the game. Just continue to utilize, not just their talents, but their awareness and their intelligence to be able to get him the football, whether or not it’s short passes New York Giants Hoodie , inside passes, outside passes, all that kind of stuff.”Why the Giants added WR Stacy ColeyShurmur coached Coley, added via waivers on Wednesday, in Minnesota last season.“He’s got good speed, contributes on special teams and he’s caught punts before, kicks,” Shurmur said. “He has that ability and he was a young, developmental receiver when I had him a year ago. But he’s a good player and we’re fortunate he was available. We just felt like it would be a good guy to add to the mix.”Janoris Jenkins: Giants “way better” than they have shownCornerback Janoris Jenkins remains optimistic despite the Giants’ 0-2 start.“One game at a time. We understand what we’re in, what we got ourselves in, and we feel like we’re way better than that, so we’re just going to come out and play football, and have fun.”Around the Inter-GoogleGiants: Eli Manning not rolling over despite 0-2 startEli Manning has overcome plenty of adversity, and he is ready to do so again for the Giants against the Texans.PFF's NFL QB Rankings – after Week 2 | NFL Analysis | Pro Football FocusEditor Cam Mellor takes a closer look at how the NFL's starting 32 quarterbacks have fared through two weeks of play, ahead of the Thursday Night Football game between the Jets and Browns. It doesn’t get any easier now for Giants’ embattled offensive lineIt’s going to go one of two ways for the Giants offensive line Sunday in Houston — and only one of those ways is acceptable. The Giants’ 2018 season,...Jets, Giants need their youth to rescue potentially dismal seasonThe threat of another ugly New York football season is upon us.“Not easy, not easy,” WFAN host and former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason said before this...Leonard: Plain and simple, Giants need to figure out way to get Odell Beckham Jr. the ball more often - NY Daily NewsThe Giants didn't pay Odell Beckham Jr. to be a decoy. New York Giants co-owner John Mara said Tuesday that he was “embarrassed” and “sick about” his team being 1-5. First-year coach Pat Shurmur, asked about those remarks, said “I don’t like it either.”“I am disappointed that we’re 1-5 and we’re working to correct that. I’ve said this before, when we lose ball games, I’m disappointed for our players Youth Customized New York Giants Jerseys , our coaches, our fans, and also our administration and that includes John,” Shurmur said. “I get it, I know the feeling, and those of us that have coached in this game long enough, we’ve won enough games to know how that feels, and we’ve lost games and gone through stretches where you’re trying to build something and you lose games and you know how that feels. “I’ve mentioned it many times that there is an urgency in our gut to get it right and we are trying to do the things necessary to do that.”Here are some other takeaways from Shurmur’s Tuesday media availability. On Mara’s remarks about Odell Beckham Jr. Mara said Tuesday that he would like to see Beckham “do a little more playing and a little less talking.”Shurmur deflected when asked about that.“I have addressed the Odell stuff. Odell is a member of the New York Giants football team and we’re going to work with every player to become the best they can be, not only on the field but off the field,” Shurmur said. “So when things happen, we talk behind the scenes and we’re trying to make everybody as good as they can be in really all areas of their life. That’s the way it works.”On the Giants’ struggling offense“We haven’t scored enough points and I have acknowledged that we need to. We got the ball in the red zone a couple of times last week where we didn’t score points. We were stopped on fourth down once, we kicked a couple of field goals, that makes the game a lot different and I’ve acknowledged that,” Shurmur said. “When you get down there, you’ve got to score points. We also spotted them seven points, too.”On the possibility of being active at the trade deadline“I wouldn’t comment on that. I don’t even know what that means. Does it mean we’re going to make trades? We’re making changes to the roster all the time, and we did that today. On the learning curve with a new team“I think we have a much better feeling for who the players are and how they respond to a win and how we’re responding to losses, how hard guys work and their competitive spirit and all that, and then what guys can and can’t do,” Shurmur said. “As you know, we’re constantly changing up the roster, there’s been a lot of change from a year ago, and we just have to get everybody on the same page doing the things necessary to win games.”

Ladies and gentleman Gerald McCoy Jersey ,After losing to the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 2-3 on the season. They’ve lost three straight after starting 2-0. The 34-29 loss to the Falcons was the culmination of bad defense, a missed kick, and a turnover in the Falcons’ end zone that left at least three points off the board. But which play hurt Tampa Bay the most? At Bucs Nation, there is quite a bit of discussion regarding the point of no return for the Bucs, so we figured we’d let everyone into our minds for a quick peek. Tread carefully. There were several key plays in Sunday’s game that hurt Tampa Bay. Which one did the most damage and why?Evan: For me, it was the third quarter interception in the end zone. The Bucs were able to stop the Falcons and get the ball right back after halftime. Winston found Adam Humphries over the middle and from there it was a footrace to the end zone. Hump couldn’t outrun Damontae Kazee, however, and was tackled at the Falcons’ 2. As soon as he went out of bounds, a feeling of dread just came over me. There had been so many instances watching this team - both in the past and recently - where the Bucs don’t score a touchdown in this scenario. Well, they couldn’t even score a field goal as Winston stared down Chris Godwin and made a poor throw into the back of the end zone. It was tipped in the air and subsequently picked off by Brian Poole for a touchback. The Bucs were down 24-13 at this point. Forget about the touchdown. If they get three points here and the rest of the game plays out like it did then that puts Tampa Bay at 25-24 after Godwin’s touchdown. Whether or not they go for the two point conversion is a whole different hypothetical conversation and forget about the missed PAT at the beginning of the game. The bottom line here is simple: they don’t turn the ball over, they have a 25-24 lead instead of a 24-22 deficit in which they are attempting to convert a two-point conversion to tie the game. Jon: Was the interception costly? Yes. But it wasn’t why they lost the game.Chandler Catanzaro’s missed XP was more costly - it changed entire complexion of game. Winston’s interception - while it wasn’t a great throw - it involved a ton of bad luck on the bounce. That’s not in anyone’s control. If Catanzaro doesn’t miss, they never have to go for the two-point conversion. Winston would’ve had the Bucs in field goal range to tie the game at the end, even with his mistakes.Evan: But just to stay in this line of thinking, how confident are you in Catanzaro’s ability to hit a game-clinching field goal? He’s missed multiple PATs so far this season and missed a field goal attempt that would’ve sealed the deal in New Orleans.Instead, he missed and the Saints had one more shot to come back. It was anything but a guarantee that Cat makes the game-tying field goal if he were called upon. Gil: I get that the interception hurt. Hell Authentic Jameis Winston Jersey , I think the one in the second quarter was far worse because the Bucs could have either scored or kept the drive alive a bit more and perhaps prevent a score from Atlanta just before the half. But, it wasn’t the interceptions that were the problem. It was the inept Tampa Bay defense that seems to put pressure on an offense to put up at least 50 points per week to guarantee a victory. The Buccaneers defense is on track to set (negative) records by season’s end while the offense is on pace to set (positive) records themselves. Just like they did against the Steelers, the offense has the ability to overcome mistakes. But they can’t overcome the miscues from their teammates on the other side of the ball. Frustration is starting to mount for some. We saw proven winners like Jason Pierre-Paul on the sidelines frustrated often. In the first half alone, I witnessed Pierre-Paul away from the field on the bench trying to hype up the defense. He also got into it with DL coach Brentson Buckner and they exchanged techniques. But in the second half, we witnessed linebacker Kwon Alexander and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy dancing and smiling on the sidelines down eight points. Hall of Famer Warren Sapp even took offense to that. But now with defensive coordinator Mike Smith gone, this merely validates the real issue for the Buccaneers’ struggles. And it wasn’t only in Atlanta, it’s been all season.Evan: I agree with both points, but in the big picture, the Bucs had a chance to overcome both the defense and the missed PAT - but the interception prevented that from happening.Regardless, when you make these types of mistakes in one game, you’re bound to lose.Jon: That’s 100% true. However, it was Winston’s first red zone interceptions since his rookie season, and the Bucs have the worst defense in NFL history. It mathematically doesn’t matter who is under center, because they have to be perfect just to have a chance to win. And not just 250 yards and two touchdowns perfect, we’re talking 400 yards and five or six touchdowns and no turnovers perfect. It took a once-every-50-years type game from Fitzpatrick just to beat the Saints. This team could easily should be 1-4, despite having one of the best offenses ever. The only things that matter when it comes to how many points a defense gives up is how good or bad they are and field position. The interception on Winston’s deep throw was easily his worst throw of the game Youth Demar Dotson Jersey , but it put Atlanta on their own 1-yard line. The defense got a stop, and the offense scored off of the ensuing short field. So only one of his two picks actually hurt the team. But when the defense is this bad, nothing else matters. He can’t hurt the team more than the defense has. But I agree he is not good enough to overcome them and his own mistakes.Vinny Curry adds a veteran presence to Bucs locker room. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are well into the groove of training camp as week two approaches. By all accounts, the team has had very good practices and there seems to be great competition all over the field. One player who seems to have added a different dimension to this team is Vinny Curry. Curry, is coming off of a Super Bowl Championship with the Philadelphia Eagles, and is hoping to bring another one to Tampa Bay. Ever since the end of free agency and then the draft, I have been saying that this Tampa Bay defensive line is amongst the top in the NFL. Curry echoed some loud words after practice on Sunday that should get all Buccaneer fans excited. “You know what man, we had a great team last year and great defensive linemen. You know, from the ones to the twos, we rotated every four plays. We’re building that here,” Curry said.“We have just as much talent on our defense here in Tampa as we did in Philly.” Of course, the results need to show on the field for that statement to be true, but it is good to hear. It has been long overdue since Tampa Bay has put a Super Bowl caliber defense out on the field. Chemistry for any team is important, but it’s especially important along both the offensive and defensive lines. You want the guys in the trenches to be on the same page and have each other’s back at all costs. Developing that bond not only on, but off the field, is something that Curry has been working to do ever since he arrived in Tampa. “That’s one thing you know we pride ourselves on. Like I’ve said already http://www.buccaneersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-bryan-anger-jersey , everyone is getting to know one another. By this time next week, we’ll be a totally different team from today,” Curry said. “You know what I’m saying? That’s the goal, to come out here and kind of get better each day, learn something new and get down that chemistry as soon as possible.Every player the Buccaneers acquired along the defensive line this off-season has won a championship. That helps for obvious reasons, but it really should help this Buccaneer team. It’s been so long since the city has seen a constant winner, let alone Super Bowl contender. For that experience to come over and teach the existing young guys what it takes to win is huge and should only help this team in the long run. “My biggest thing is I’m telling everyone: winning is contagious. You know, it’s contagious man,” Curry said. “If you go out there and put your heart on the line and everybody is on the same page, that’s really where you get your click in. That’s really where you get, ‘Damn that team is fun to watch,’ Curry said. So far, without playing a single snap for the team, it looks like Curry has already made a huge impact off the field. The team can only hope the impact on the field is even greater.
