Quarterback Sam Darnold has reported to training camp.

The Jets posted a video of Darnold arriving at the team’s facility on Monday and saying that it is “a pleasure to be signed now.” That video came shortly after mutual reports that the third overall pick’s deal was done several days after the Jets opened up training camp.

Disagreements over offsets and language concerning voiding guarantees in the contract were said to be the holdup in getting Darnold in camp and on the practice field on time. The deal reportedly includes offset language Tyler Ennis Jersey , which would keep Darnold from double dipping on salary in the event that he doesn’t make it to the end of his contract with the Jets.

If that’s the case, the problems for both the Jets and Darnold will go further than who will pay for some portion of the $30.25 million he’s set to receive over the next four years. Now that Darnold is signed, he can start practicing in hopes of taking that potential outcome off the table.

Mike Singletary hopes to coach again in the NFL someday. He has plenty on his plate right now, though.

Singletary was at minicamp with the Detroit Lions on Thursday. He said he doesn’t know Lions coach Matt Patricia that well, but he wanted to be there to check out the video screens Detroit is using at practice.

Singletary was hired earlier this year to coach high school football at Trinity Christian Academy in Texas. He also has been hired as coach of the Memphis franchise in the Alliance of American Football, which will start playing in February.

Singletary has coached for three NFL teams Milan Lucic Jersey Kids , including a stint as San Francisco’s head coach. The 49ers went 18-22 under him from 2008-10. Singletary was asked if he thought he could get another opportunity like that.

”I hope so. But for me, I’m going to work where I’m planning,” he said. ”Very excited to be where I am, and if that happens, great. If not, then I’m going to keep working where I’m at.”

Singletary says he learned some lessons from his time coaching in the NFL.

”It’s a long list of things. I think more so than anything else is how much I needed to do – how much work I needed to do as a coach and being able to coach my coaches and have them help my players. … Just getting more information Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Jersey , just getting more grounding as a head coach.”

A star linebacker with the Chicago Bears, Singletary was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. He clearly still enjoys being involved in the sport.

”It’s such a great game, such a great game when you have the right people involved, when you have the right coaches and you’ve got good kids,” Singletary said. ”I think all kids are good kids. … You’ve got to know which ones you’ve got to manage, and the ones that help the others. But it’s just such a great game Carter Hutton Jersey , and so many life lessons, so very important game to me, in America.”

As for the video screens at practice, Patricia explained the purpose this week.

”You may have missed something on the field. You kind of look at it and see what happens. You see what went wrong on the play and can get that instant kind of correction to the player right away,” Patricia said. ”A lot of the times the players are trying to figure it out for themselves. So, they’ll see something and Womens Devante Smith-Pelly Jersey , `Hey, what happened right there?’ And they can look at it and reference it from that standpoint.”

Initial reports about wide receiver Josh Doctson‘s shoulder injury on Wednesday were that it was not a serious issue and his coach said the same on Thursday.

Washington coach Jay Gruden said that “everything checked out fine” when Doctson went for tests on Wednesday. Doctson was injured after colliding with cornerback Josh Norman while in pursuit of an Alex Smith pass.

Gruden said that Doctson will miss a couple of days of practice before getting back to what the coach said has been a productive summer.

“Good. Very good Womens Will Butcher Jersey ,” Gruden said, via the Washington Post. “Done a lot of good things down the field … Everything, he’s been good.”

The entire team is off on Friday after what Gruden said would be a lighter practice on Thursday. Their first preseason game is next Thursday against the Patriots.

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with four of their six draft picks Thomas Vanek Jersey , including cornerback Isaiah Oliver, a second-round pick from Colorado.

The Falcons also announced they have agreed to terms with running back Ito Smith, a fourth-round pick Mathew Barzal Jersey , and their two sixth-round picks, wide receiver Russell Gage and linebacker Foye Oluokun.

The Falcons have not announced deals with wide receiver Calvin Ridley, the first-round selection from Alabama Youth Chris Kunitz Jersey , and defensive tackle Deadrin Senat, a third-round pick from South Florida.

Senat is expected to compete for a starting job after Dontari Poe signed as a free agent with NFC South rival Carolina.

Atlanta's rookie mini-camp is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

San Francisco 49ers receiver Victor Bolden has been suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The league announced the ban on Friday. Bolden will be eligible to participate in the offseason and preseason games and can return to the active roster on Oct. 1 Nick Foligno Jersey , following San Francisco's fourth game.

Bolden said in a statement that he unknowingly used a substance on the NFL banned list. He said he takes full responsibility for not verifying the ingredients of the supplement and will be better educated in the future.

Bolden spent last season on special teams where he returned 19 kicks for 396 yards and four punts for 23 yards.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Even as he enters his fourth season, Tevin Coleman is still taking notes from Falcons teammate Devonta Freeman on all the basics that go with being an NFL running back.

How to run. How to catch. How to block.

How to make teammates smile.

In training camp, Freeman’s contagious personality may be one of his biggest strengths. His ever-present smile can be a mood-lifter during long, hot practice days.

“It’s definitely effective,” Coleman said after Saturday’s practice. “Just having him here and bringing in the energy and getting other guys motivated to compete and work hard, just his presence here lightens everybody up. I like that.”

Freeman is especially upbeat this camp. He is relishing his return to good health following a sometimes scary 2017 season.

Freeman suffered two concussions last year. He spent the last two weeks of the preseason in concussion protocol before suffering another concussion against Dallas on Nov. 12 that forced him to miss two games. A sprained right knee cut into his production late in the season.

Now Freeman, 26 Authentic Nail Yakupov Jersey , is feeling good. He’s an important part of an offense that is looking to return to its form of 2016, when it led the league in scoring.

“What more can I ask for?” Freeman asked earlier this week. “My dream job is football and I get to play. I come to work and play football every day. That’s it.”

Coleman said Freeman is “happy to feel good, happy to be here with his brothers, happy to compete.”

Coach Dan Quinn says Freeman’s tough demeanor in practice shows that he loves the game, especially in training camp.

“He’s such a competitor,” Quinn said Saturday. “He has the personality among his teammates. They love him. They love what he stands for on the field, off the field, in the locker room. He is one of constant support. His makeup and mentality Youth Brandon Carlo Jersey , based on toughness and competing, this is his kind of environment.”

Added Quinn: “We truly celebrate guys like Free who live that lifestyle.”

Quinn immediately noticed a change in Freeman early in camp.

“It is awesome to see Free back, feeling like himself,” he said.

Freeman was one of the first players to catch the attention of Quinn, then a first-year coach, in 2015. The coach immediately talked about Freeman’s skills as a runner and receiver, and the running back’s breakout season lived up to the hype.

Freeman ranked fifth in the NFL with 1,634 combined rushing and receiving yards in 2015 and was first with 14 all-purpose touchdowns.

He added another 1 Sonny Milano Jersey ,000-yard rushing season in 2016. Even while missing two games last year, he ran for 865 yards with seven touchdowns and had 36 catches for 317 yards.

Most running backs would be happy with 36 catches, but for Freeman it was a big drop from 2015, when he caught 73 passes for 578 yards.

Freeman hopes he and Coleman have more targets from quarterback Matt Ryan in the second year with offensive coordinator Steve Sarkasian.

“I think we’ve got enough talent to be utilized in the passing game,” he said. “We need to take advantage of that.”

NOTES: The Falcons had their fourth annual military day, welcoming soldiers from Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, and 24 families from the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors who have lost a loved one in the military. “It was a great way for us to pay tribute back to them Philipp Grubauer Jersey ,” Quinn said. … A German TV crew, on a tour of at least eight NFL training camps, visited the Falcons and plans to return when Atlanta hosts this season’s Super Bowl. “It would be a perfect scenario if the home team could reach the Super Bowl,” said Christoph Dommisch of 7Sports. Dommisch and other members of the crew wore traditional lederhosen — shorts and suspenders.

The Colts signed free agent running back Tion Green Nick Foligno Jersey , the team announced Tuesday. Indianapolis waived linebacker William Ossai from the non-football illness list.

Green played five games with the Lions as a rookie in 2017 and had 42 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 14 yards.

He played in 46 games at the University of Cincinnati, finishing with 445 carries for 2,072 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also made 47 receptions for 295 yards and returned nine kickoffs for 193 yards.

Ossai signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 1. He appeared in 48 games Kyle Turris Jersey , with 22 starts, at San Jose State and finished with 169 tackles, 17 tackles for loss Brandon Saad Jersey , two sacks, seven passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week that he was expecting safety Earl Thomas to be at the team’s mandatory minicamp when it starts on Tuesday Jason Pominville Jersey Kids , but Thomas has other plans.

In a post to Twitter on Sunday, Thomas announced that he will not attend the team’s minicamp. Thomas suggested he won’t be at training camp either unless the team gives him a new contract.

“I will not be attending the upcoming minicamp or any team activities until my contract situation is resolved. I want everyone especially the 12s to know that I want to remain a Seahawk for the rest of my career but I also believe that based on my production over the last 8 years that I鈥檝e earned the right to have this taken care of as soon as possible. I want to have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career. I鈥檓 going to continue to work my craft and put in work so that I can add to the team and give us the best chance to win. I hope my teammates understand where I鈥檓 coming from I believe this is the right thing to do.”

Thomas is set to make $8.5 million in the final year of his current contract. There were talks about a possible trade involving Thomas earlier in the offseason with the Cowboys seen as a possible landing spot. Those could be revisited if the Seahawks and Thomas continue to have different views on his contract in the coming weeks.

If you've been a fan of NHL team logos and jerseys for the last 30 years Jesper Bratt Jersey Kids , you might view them as either traditional, well-designed, or corny.聽Three of the Original Six teams such as the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers have logos that have stood the test of time. Then in February of 2016, the Toronto Maple Leafs recently modified their primary "leaf" logo in order to start a new chapter in their storied history.

Then the first wave of expansion in 1967 brought the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, Minnesota North Stars (now the Dallas Stars), Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings into the league. Those teams continue to thrive a half-century later, but some of them have created the weakest logos for over two decades. For example, remember when the Pens ditched the "skating penguin" for the infamous pigeon-head after their second straight Stanley Cup win in '92? Or how about the LA Kings' egregious Burger King logo from the 90s that The Great One actually wore? With that said, let us review the聽20 worst logos from current NHL teams, along with one failed Sun Belt franchise since the beginning of the '90s.

Shaquem Griffin came back. The crowd loved it.

Players in attendance not selected in the first two days of the NFL draft usually head out of town before the fourth through seventh rounds.

Griffin, who sat through 100 names being called in the first three rounds Authentic Oscar Lindberg Jersey , wasn’t in AT&T Stadium on Saturday.

Then he was after Seattle spent the 141st overall selection on the Central Florida linebacker who has no left hand.

That fifth-round choice, announced in Seattle, drew loud cheers from fans at Jerry’s World.

Griffin, whose left hand was amputated when he was young, has become the feel-good story this year and one of the most popular players in this draft because of his perseverance, outgoing personality and, of course, his talent.

”I mean that was amazing,” Griffin said. ”To even have an opportunity to come back, I didn’t think I was going to be able to come back and do it … I don’t remember seeing too many people who have left and came back.

”That was the most amazing experience of my entire life. Me thinking about it, that moment, to be up on that stage and having the crowd go crazy, it was like we had won the Peach Bowl all over again. It was nuts.”

Griffin helped UCF go undefeated last season, then blew through the NFL combine with a 4.38 in the 40 Scott Hartnell Jersey , sensational lifting work with his prosthetic, and a can-do attitude.

Exactly the sort of player the Seahawks seem to find; they drafted his twin brother, Shaquill, out of UCF last year.

”It’s been a really good experience,” Shaquem said. ”I would have been crazy to turn an experience down like this. I’m just glad I was one of the selected few to be here.”

Griffin had one of the more unusual ways of finding out he was chosen.

”I was using the restroom and my brother came and tackled me with my cellphone, saying `answer it, answer it,’ and I looked, and that’s when tears started pouring down,” Griffin explained.

”I literally went to use the restroom and that’s when my brother busted in and tackled me. I think I was more scared of him tackling me in the bathroom and not knowing what was happening than anything.”

Griffin received, by far, the biggest cheers of the day – louder even than when the Cowboys‘ selections were announced. And he made a promise: ”Great things are coming to Seattle.”

Griffin’s selection early in the fifth round enlivened a day in which most picks are relatively unknown or obscure players. Not all, though.

Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst was taken one spot in front of Griffin by Oakland. The All-American would have gone much earlier, but a heart condition was discovered at the combine John Carlson Jersey , dropping him far down draft boards.

He had 5 sacks as an interior rusher and led all nose tackles and defensive tackles with 49 total quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.

”It’s tough thinking that you’re one of the top players in the draft and having good tape and everything like that, just having to wait,” Hurst said. ”You believe you’re better than guys who go ahead of you is tough. I’m just happy to be in the right place and a great organization.”

As for his health, ”I’m ready to go right now.”

Another All-American, Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell, was taken by Denver at No. 106. He’s not considered quick, but he is active and seemed to be in on every tackle for the Hawkeyes.

”A lot of that is instincts. A lot of film watching for me,” he said. ”It really helped me because I did not run the fastest time ever, not even close. I had to be able to make up from somewhere else.”

Also:

-Michigan State extended its streak of having at least one player selected to 78 years when Brian Allen went to the Rams early in the fourth round. Only Michigan and USC have longer streaks, both extended to 80 years during the first two days of the draft.

-The Giants took the first quarterback of the third day, Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta at No. 109. The Giants passed on trying to get their quarterback of the future to replace Eli Manning in the first round, taking running back Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall. Lauletta doesn’t have a big arm, but he showed good athleticism and accuracy playing at the FCS school.

Other quarterbacks chosen: Western Kentucky’s Mike White to Dallas; Washington State’s Luke Falk to Tennessee; Nebraska’s Tanner Lee to Jacksonville; LSU’s Danny Etling to New England; Florida International’s Alex McGeough to Seattle; and Toledo’s Logan Woodside to Cincinnati.

-Dallas acquired wideout Tavon Austin from the Rams in a trade Saturday.

-Cleveland used a fourth-round pick http://www.officialpredators.com/authentic-adidas-ryan-hartman-jersey , No. 105 overall, to take one of the draft’s most talented but troubled wide receivers: Florida’s Antonio Callaway. He had multiple suspensions while playing with the Gators, missing all of last season because of his part in a credit card fraud scheme.

When Callaway plays he is a deep threat receiver and dangerous return man, but he could be the next Josh Gordon, who has had many off-field issues and NFL suspensions with the Browns.

–Wisconsin tight end Troy Fumagalli, who is missing the index finger on his left hand, went to Denver in the fifth round.

-Three punters – yes, three – were taken in the fifth round.

Michael Dickson, the Australian from the University of Texas, was picked 149th overall by Seattle. Alabama’s JK Scott was drafted 172nd overall by Green Bay, a pick before Oakland took Johnny Townsend from Authentic Buffalo Bills Jerseys

The recent DUI arrest for Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim is apparently not his first.

According to the police report from the incident Womens Jaroslav Halak Jersey , Keim also told officers he was convicted of another DUI in 1996.

That was the year he graduated from N.C. State and made a brief appearance in Dolphins camp, before he embarked on a career in personnel.

A local DUI attorney told Lindsey Collom of the Arizona Republic that the previous DUI wouldn’t impact this case because it was more than seven years ago, but the NFL has shown that it is not bound by the legal system in its crime-and-punishment role.

Keim would be subject to punishment by the league under the personal conduct policy, and owner Michael Bidwill has already said there would be “consequences” for the arrest.

Artemi Panarin scored 6:02 into overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Panarin made an incredible individual move to drive by fellow Russian Dmitry Orlov and went backhand-to-forehand to beat Philipp Grubauer top shelf.

Game 2 is Sunday night in Washington.

Alexander Wennberg, Thomas Vanek and Seth Jones scored in regulation, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots for Columbus, which got two power-play goals to continue a strong trend since the trade deadline.

Wennberg left the game with an upper-body injury in the third period and didn’t return. Jones, son of former NBA player Popeye Jones Rasmus Ristolainen Jersey , drew a penalty late in the third period, almost put the puck in his own net and tied it on the ensuing power play with 4:26 left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Washington got two power-play goals from Evgeny Kuznetsov on Josh Anderson’s five-minute major penalty for boarding Michal Kempny and an even-strength goal on the rush in the third period by Devante Smith-Pelly. Grubauer, who got the nod to start over 2016 Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Braden Holtby, made 23 saves in his second career playoff start.

LIGHTNING 5, DEVILS 2

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Tampa Bay got early goals from four players – none of them named Nikita Kucherov or Steven Stamkos – before holding off New Jersey in Game 1.

Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson and Yanni Gourde scored, helping the Lightning build a 3-0 lead that New Jersey trimmed to one goal before Alex Killorn and Kucherov Zach Parise Jersey , who added an empty-netter, finished off the win.

Taylor Hall scored an unassisted goal in the second period, then assisted on Travis Zajac’s power-play goal that cut it to 3-2 midway through third against Andrei Vasilievskiy.

Killorn’s shot over the glove of goalie Kevin Kincaid’s glove restored a two-goal lead before Kucherov, who led the Lightning with 100 points this season, ensured there would be no comeback.

Vasilievskiy made 29 saves.

Game 2 is Saturday at Amalie Arena.

SHARKS 3, DUCKS 0

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Evander Kane scored two goals in his first career playoff game, Martin Jones made 25 saves and the Sharks beat the Ducks in their first-round series opener.

Brent Burns also scored and captain Joe Pavelski had two assists during a three-goal second period to help the Sharks easily take early control in the series between California rivals. San Jose and Anaheim have been regular playoff teams for the past 15 years http://www.officialflyersproshop.com/authentic-adidas-nolan-patrick-jersey , yet are meeting in the postseason for only the second time.

John Gibson stopped 30 shots for the Ducks, who lost a series opener at home in their third consecutive playoff series. Anaheim had won seven straight home games down the regular-season stretch, losing in regulation at home just once in 17 games since late January.

Game 2 is Saturday night at Honda Center.

BRUINS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 1

BOSTON (AP) – Brad Marchand, David Backes and David Krejci each scored a power-play goal, and Tuukka Rask stopped 26 shots in Boston’s Game 1 victory over Toronto.

David Pastrnak also scored for Boston, and Sean Kuraly bunted one out of the air and into the net over goalie Frederik Andersen to make it 4-1 with seven minutes gone in the third period. Krejci bounced it in off Andersen from behind to make it 5-1 after Toronto’s Nazem Kadri was thrown out of the game and given a five-minute major for an elbow to Tommy Wingels‘ head.

Zach Hyman scored Toronto’s only goal, and Andersen made 35 saves.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Boston.

The Seahawks have signed wide receiver Brandon Marshall Brent Seabrook Jersey Kids , and with another season in the NFL, the longtime veteran has a chance to join some elite company.

Marshall currently has 959 career catches, putting him just 41 away from 1,000 catches in his career. Marshall is second among active players; only Larry Fitzgerald, with 1,234 catches, has more.

The 1,000-catch club is relatively new: Jerry Rice became the first NFL player with 1,000 career catches in 1996 Authentic Mikael Backlund Jersey , and every other player to reach 1,000 career catches has done so in 2000 or after. Overall there are 14 players with 1,000 career catches, and Marshall will try to be the 15th.

Before Marshall can join the 1,000-catch club, he’ll surpass Randy Moss, who has 982 career catches.

After Marshall, it may be a few years before we have another receiver join the 1,000-catch club. Antonio Gates is close Craig Smith Jersey , with 927 career catches, but given that he’s currently without a team it seems unlikely that he has 73 more catches left in him. After Gates, Antonio Brown is next among active players, with 733 career catches.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Injuries and unexpected developments have left the Green Bay Packers thin at running back with just two camp practices and two games left in the preseason.

Only Ty Montgomery, who has overcome injury issues in the past, and little-known halfback Joel Bouagnon have made it through camp unscathed.

The Packers were forced to sign Bronson Hill and LeShun Daniels over the weekend to replenish depth.

Hill spent two games on Arizona’s 53-man roster after bouncing around a host of practice squads. Daniels played four games for Washington last season.

“We’re a little thin at running back,” coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. “We’ve got a number of different balls in the air, (more) than I recall at this particular juncture of a training camp.”

A hamstring injury has forced Aaron Jones to miss most of camp. Jones Antti Niemi Jersey , who has yet to play in a preseason game after a breakout rookie season, will miss the Sept. 9 regular-season opener against Chicago and the Sept. 16 game against Minnesota after being suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Jones injured his hamstring early in camp and took part in 11-on-11 team drills for the first time again on Monday.

“Hopefully Aaron will get to go more into Oakland,” McCarthy said.

Jamaal Williams said Monday that his ankle injury suffered in last week’s preseason win over Pittsburgh was the result of Steelers linebacker Vince Williams grabbing and twisting it at the end of a run.

Jamaal Williams did not practice Monday, but took handoffs and appeared to move well during a workout with the medical staff. He said he planned on kicking the next defensive player who does what he says Vince Williams did.

“If the ref asks why I’m kicking, I’ll be like, ‘Hey, he’s twisting ankles.’ I’m just going to do what I’ve got to do to survive honestly,” the running back said.

“I’m not trying to get hurt and not be able to play anymore because somebody wants to be aggressive and do dirty things like that. So why can I not protect myself from those type of injuries?”

Devante Mays, who made the team as a seventh-round pick last year Frederik Andersen Jersey , won’t play again this week because of a lingering hamstring injury. He is running out of time to make the roster, McCarthy said.

“There’s a sense of urgency,” Mays said. “I want to get back out there as soon as I can. But I also want to be smart with it because if I try to push it too fast and go back out there, then it’s more disappointment.”

And there’s the unexpected retirement of promising rookie Akeem Judd, who was placed on the reserve/retired list after informing McCarthy on Friday that he was walking away from the game.

McCarthy said he was disappointed that Judd, who joined the team a week into camp after Jones’ and Mays’ injuries, decided to walk away but respected his decision. Judd became the third young player in the past month to tell the Packers that he was retiring, joining linebacker Parris Bennett and wide receiver Michael Clark.

Judd had an 11-yard run against Tennessee in the preseason opener and showed enough promise that McCarthy had planned to give him more opportunities this week.

Texas Tech has established a tradition of sending receivers to the NFL. Michael Crabtree Ryan Callahan Jersey , Wes Welker, Danny Amendola and Jakeem Grant have represented the Red Raiders in recent years.

The school had only two players selected this year, and both were wideouts. The Texans selected Keke Coutee in the fourth round, and Dylan Cantrell went to the Chargers in the sixth.

Coutee made second-team All-Big 12 honors last season, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Penciled in as the Texans’ returner, Coutee is competing with Braxton Miller for the slot position.

“He’s in the long mold of those Red Raiders,” Texans receivers coach John Perry said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s done a good job. He’s working hard. He shows up every day. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do. If he continues to do that, I can see him moving forward.”

Although Miller is “on the right path” after offseason workouts, he hasn’t found a way to stay on the field. He missed 11 games his first two seasons, making only 34 catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

That gives Coutee a chance to contribute as a rookie.

“He’s only getting better,” Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins said. “He’s always hanging around Valtteri Filppula Jersey , seeing what I’m doing in between periods, asking me questions. The guy can play football. That’s going to take care of itself. Coming in, learning this offense, getting in his playbook, and that’s what he’s been doing.”

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Todd Bowles has a secret — and he’s not letting on at all.

The only thing is, everyone has a pretty good idea what it is.

The New York Jets coach won’t say who his starting quarterback will be this season, despite all signs appearing to point to rookie Sam Darnold.

“I definitely won’t do it today,” Bowles said Sunday of an official announcement. “Sometime next week … maybe.”

Darnold has started New York’s past two preseason games and appears to be the front-runner in the competition that includes incumbent Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater. The No. 3 overall draft pick has been solid this summer, impressing coaches and teammates with his decision-making and ability to quickly digest the playbook.

“As coaches, we’ll meet on it and keep meeting on it,” Bowles said. “I have my ideas in my head, which I’ll keep to myself at this point.

“But Mike Smith Jersey , I have a good idea.”

Bowles insisted that the decision is not something he’s even struggling with. No lost moments of sleep while juggling his signal callers in his mind.

“Not really,” he said. “No.”

To anyone watching the Jets throughout training camp and the preseason, it would be a surprise if Darnold isn’t under center when New York opens the regular season at Detroit on Sept. 10. It would seem unlikely that Darnold will get much, if any, time on the field in the preseason finale Thursday night at Philadelphia — the game when starters typically sit out.

After missing the first three days of camp while getting his contract hammered out, Darnold quickly caught up to his teammates on the field. He was third in the rotation in the preseason opener against Atlanta, but opened the past two games with the starting offense.

Bowles said he has not told any of the players yet who the starting quarterback will be. And that’s OK, as far as Darnold is concerned.

“I’m not really going about my day any different than I would,” Darnold said. “I’m still continuing in practice to take advantage of every opportunity I get to play football and to be able to play this position. And, continuing to do my thing and trying to be as consistent as possible and go about it that way.”

From a numbers standpoint, Darnold hasn’t necessarily been eye-popping this preseason. He’s 29 of 45 for 244 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

It’s the veteran-like way he has handled situations in the games that has been promising. Darnold has displayed an ability to make plays when the pocket collapses, while also being smart with the football.

“I mean, I wouldn’t be disappointed and I wouldn’t be surprised Milan Lucic Jersey Kids ,” Darnold said of the possibility he isn’t named the starter.

“Throughout my short career playing football, I’ve seen a lot of things,” he added. “Teddy and Josh are great players, so I wouldn’t be surprised. At the same time, every quarterback wants to play, but that’s not my job to put the best player out there. That’s Coach’s job. Whether that’s Josh, whether that’s Teddy, whether that’s me, we’re just going to go out there and do the best we can.”

Bridgewater has perhaps outplayed Darnold, just based on statistics, going 28 of 38 for 316 yards and two TDs and one interception. But it seems the veteran, who has proven he’s healthy two years after a devastating knee injury, will be a backup — that is John Hayden Jersey , if he’s not traded.

“I’m living in the now,” Bridgewater said. “I’m taking advantage of this opportunity I have right now.”

Meanwhile, McCown has thrown just one pass, a 4-yard completion, in one series this preseason. It was similar to last summer when the 39-year-old veteran got limited work while the Jets evaluated their young QBs. McCown still ended up being the starter when neither Christian Hackenberg nor Bryce Petty distinguished himself.

This year, though, Darnold and Bridgewater have given Bowles and his coaches plenty to consider.

“I don’t think it happens in a week,” Bowles said of the decision. “It happens throughout the course of the spring and summer. I’ll always get their opinion. This is not a state-of-the-union-type of thing. I think they have a feel for where I am from a coaching standpoint and you tell the players when you tell the players and kind of go from there.”

NOTES: Bowles said WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) is considered “day to day, week to week.” It’s uncertain if Kearse, who led the team with 65 catches last season, will be ready for the season opener. … Second-year RB Elijah McGuire (foot) won’t be ready for the start of the regular season and Bowles wouldn’t rule out putting him on short-term IR.

TAMPA Authentic Stephen Johns Jersey , Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired Jason Pierre-Paul to bolster an anemic pass rush. However, the former New York Giants star wants to be a lot more than a one-dimensional player.

The two-time Pro Bowl end believes he can be part of the solution to a leaky run defense, too, in addition to stalking opposing quarterbacks.

”I want everybody to know that I’m still capable of playing the run,” the 29-year-old said. ”They already know I can play the pass. But if you can’t stop the run, there is no pass rush.”

The Bucs traded for Pierre-Paul in March after having one of the NFL’s least-effective defenses a year ago, when they went 5-11 and ranked last in passing and total yards allowed, as well as sacks with 22.

The team hasn’t had a player with 10 or more sacks in a season since Simeon Rice had 14 in 2005.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Pierre-Paul had 58 1/2 sacks in eight seasons with the Giants, including a career-best 16 1/2 in 2001 and 12 1/2 in 2014.

He hasn’t come close to posting double-digit sack totals since suffering a serious hand injury in a Fourth of July fireworks accident three years ago. Still, his numbers have improved each season from one in eight games in 2015 to seven in 2016 and 8 1/2 in 2017.

The Bucs feel Pierre-Paul http://www.officialcoyotes.com/authentic-adidas-clayton-keller-jersey , who played in college locally at South Florida, is an ideal fit for what they want to do with a revamped defensive line also featuring Pro Bowl tackle Gerald McCoy, offseason acquisitions Beau Allen, Vinny Curry and Mitch Unrein, and first-round draft pick Vita Vea.

Coach Dirk Koetter likes what he’s seen in training camp.

”Just a real impressive veteran player that’s willing to share with the younger guys,” Koetter said. ”His ability to work in the heat – sometimes those veteran players don’t want to come out and work as hard as we ask them to in training camp, but he’s been out front all the way.”

Like Pierre-Paul, the coach believes the ninth-year pro is versatile enough to help the Bucs slow opponents on the ground, as well as through the air.

”When we played (the Giants) last year, just from our standpoint, we probably feared him more in the running game than we did in the pass game.” Koetter said.

”That’s not a downgrade to him because we see good pass rushers every week http://www.officialoilers.com/authentic-adidas-connor-mcdavid-jersey ,” the coach added, ”but a lot of those speed rushers can’t play the run. I mean, he’s 280 pounds.”

Pierre-Paul won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2011, while Allen and Curry signed with Tampa Bay in free agency after being part of a deep line rotation that helped Philadelphia win it all last season.

The Bucs are counting on them to bring a championship mentality to a team that’s missed the playoffs 10 straight seasons – the second-longest drought in the league.

”It’s been great. We just keep creating chemistry out there. Everybody pass-rushes differently; everybody plays the run different,” Pierre-Paul said.

”As veterans on the team, we’re teaching the young guys how to come up and how to do things correctly,” he added. ”We were all once in their position, so we are (building) great chemistry together. That’s a great start for us.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Mike Maccagnan’s first draft class with the New York Jets took two big hits on cutdown day.

Linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin and defensive tackle Deon Simon were both waived Saturday as the Jets reduced their roster to the NFL’s 53-man limit.

Defensive end Leonard Williams, the No. 6 overall pick in 2015, is now the only member of Maccagnan’s six-player draft class that year remaining on the roster. Wide receiver Devin Smith (second round), quarterback Bryce Petty (fourth) and offensive lineman Jarvis Harrison (sixth) were previously released by New York.

Mauldin was a third-round pick out of Louisville in 2015 who dealt with injuries and inconsistent play during his three seasons in New York. He had 6 1/2 sacks in his first two years Scott Darling Jersey , but missed last season with a back injury.

The linebacker, who thanked the Jets in a post on Instagram for the opportunity he had in New York, was a terrific story when he was drafted. Mauldin grew up bouncing around various foster homes, but persevered and beat the odds by making it to college — and then to the NFL.

Mauldin openly wept on his conference call with the media shortly after the Jets picked him, appreciating the opportunity and vowing to prove any doubters wrong again. Now, he’ll have to do so elsewhere.

Simon was a seventh-round pick in 2015 and had 1 1/2 sacks in limited action in three seasons.

Three of Maccagnan’s picks from last year’s draft were also waived, including linebacker Dylan Donahue, wide receiver Chad Hansen and cornerback Jeremy Clark.

Donahue is facing a possible suspension by the NFL after some off-field issues. The fifth-rounder out of West Georgia pleaded guilty last month to driving while intoxicated for causing a wrong-way crash in February in New Jersey that injured four people. He also received a three-month suspended sentence last month and was fined $1,000 for a DUI crash in May 2017 in his hometown of Billings, Montana.

Veteran running backs Thomas Rawls and Charcandrick West were also cut Saturday, as was center Travis Swanson — who was trying to win a backup job behind Spencer Long.

The Jets have four running backs on their roster with Bilal Powell Shayne Gostisbehere Jersey , Isaiah Crowell, rookie Trenton Cannon and Elijah McGuire, who is entering his second season but is dealing with a broken foot.

Also waived were: wide receiver Tre McBride, tight end Clive Walford, linebackers Frankie Luvu and Anthony Wint, safety Brandon Bryant and kicker Taylor Bertolet.

With Bertolet gone, it appears veteran Jason Myers will be New York’s kicker this season. Myers was claimed off waivers from Jacksonville on Aug. 21 when Cairo Santos was cut after not kicking all summer while dealing with a groin injury that cut short his stint with Chicago last season.

Wide receiver ArDarius Stewart, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis and cornerback Rashard Robinson were all placed on the reserve-suspended list.

Safety and special teams standout Rontez Miles was put on the physically unable to perform list, and is eligible to be activated after six games.

Record-setting wins don’t get much hollower than Florida’s victory Saturday night.

The Panthers were eliminated from playoff contention, even after Vincent Trocheck scored late in the third period to help hold off the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 and set a franchise mark with 27 home victories.

Florida’s slim playoff hopes ended when Philadelphia beat the New York Rangers 5-0 earlier in the day. The Panthers took out their frustration on the Sabres, going ahead 3-0 in the first period.

The Panthers’ season ends in Boston on Sunday.

”We wanted to go in tomorrow and have a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs,” coach Bob Boughner said. ”It’s tough to have to rely on other teams. We know an hour before the game our playoff hopes were done. It was tough going into this game and getting the job done tonight.”

Jonathan Huberdeau scored a power-play goal for the Panthers. Colton Sceviour had a goal and an assist and Nick Bjugstad also scored.

”I think everybody in here is disappointed. The whole goal this year was to make the playoffs,” Trocheck said. ”Everybody coming into the game, we were all preparing as if it was going to be a do-or-die game. Kind of went into it the same way we would have gone into it if we were in the playoffs.”

James Reimer made 38 saves in place of Roberto Luongo, who had played three games in four nights, including his 1 Niklas Hjalmarsson Jersey ,000th game Thursday. The Panthers also played without points leader Aleksander Barkov, who injured his shoulder late in the third period in Thursday’s game against the Bruins. Barkov will also miss Sunday’s finale.

Ryan O’Reilly, Sam Reinhart and Jason Pominville scored for Buffalo. Chad Johnson allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first period and was replaced to start the second with Adam Wilcox. Wilcox finished with 14 stops in his NHL debut.

”The guys did a good job battling for me,” Wilcox said. ”They knew it was my debut tonight. A lot of respect for them battling for me for two periods. I just wanted to give the guys a chance to get back in the game, and they did a good job of doing that.”

The Panthers were cruising but the Sabres mounted a final flurry, scoring two goals 21 seconds apart late in the third period to make it 3-2. Pominville scored on a wrist shot with 4:30 left, and Reinhart scored shortly after.

”Just to be blunt and honest, that was typically what our season was,” coach Phil Housley said. ”We couldn’t come out and start on time, and then we get the urgency to push back and get back into a game and make a game of it.”

Trocheck’s empty-netter with 1:23 left made it score 4-2. O’Reilly’s power-play tally with 15.8 left closed the gap to 4-3.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead when Huberdeau deflected in a shot from Trocheck during a 5-on-3 power-play at 3:04 of the first. Sceviour made it 2-0 when he deflected a shot by Frank Vatrano at 10:59. Bjugstad then slid a puck under Johnson at 13:39.

NOTES: Retiring Panthers F Radim Vrbata played his last game. Vrbata played 1 Shayne Gostisbehere Jersey ,057 career games, including 42 with the Panthers. ”I’m glad I got a chance to play and have my family here. My wife, my sons, they got to see me one more time.” … O’Reilly set the NHL record for faceoff wins in a single season with 1,269 – passing Rod Brind’Amour (1,268 FOW in 2005-06). ”It’s special. It’s something I take a lot of pride in,” O’Reilly said. … A moment of silence was observed before the game in memory of the lives lost in a traffic accident Friday night involving the Humboldt Broncos, a youth hockey team from Canada.

Sabres: Completed their season.

GREEN BAY Youth John Moore Jersey , Wis. (AP) — Brian Gutekunst knows his first 53-man roster as general manager of the Packers is a bit imbalanced.

And, there still could be changes in advance of Green Bay’s regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field on Sept. 9.

But Gutekunst doesn’t have an issue with having a whopping eight wide receivers on the team. Or, four tight ends and three quarterbacks — while having only two running backs and only four outside linebackers at the moment.

“It’s a puzzle and there’s 53 you can keep on the active roster and then you can keep (10) on the practice squad,” Gutekunst said Sunday, a day after he released 32 players, waived/injured three more and placed running back Aaron Jones on the reserve/suspended list.

“That’s a little bit more the way we look at it,” he added. “And as we were going through, we were just trying to keep the best 53 that would be available for this week’s game. Again, it’s a fluid situation that changes day by day.”

Running back would appear to be the most fluid as the team kept only Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery, with Jones set to miss the first two games because of an NFL-imposed suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The Packers did add Joel Bouagnon, who was cut Saturday after spending the offseason and training camp with the team, to the practice squad Sunday.

“That’s maybe still in the works a little bit http://www.officialflames.com/authentic-adidas-jaromir-jagr-jersey , but the two that we kept, we like,” Gutekunst said. “Aaron going on suspension, that’s not a great thing for us. That kind of put us in that spot. But that may be a little bit of an evolving position for us, as well.

“That’s the thing about our roster right now, nothing’s set in stone. It’s still fluid and it will be all season. That’s just kind of the way it is in the NFL.”

Gutekunst also intimated that the Packers put in a handful of waiver claims but were not awarded any players. After their 7-9 finish a year ago, the Packers were 14th in waiver claim priority.

This marked the Packers’ first roster cutdown since Gutekunst was elevated to GM in January after Ted Thompson, his predecessor and mentor, transitioned into an advisory role. Gutekunst had been in the Packers’ scouting department for two decades, including the last six as one of Thompson’s top lieutenants.

Meanwhile, Gutekunst refused to discuss specifics about the Packers’ involvement in trade talks with Oakland for defensive end Khalil Mack, who went to the Packers’ NFC North rivals Anthony Beauvillier Jersey , the Chicago Bears, in a deal Saturday. The Packers were reportedly among the teams to make an offer on Mack, but the Raiders ultimately accepted the Bears’ offer, which included first-round picks in 2019 and 2020.

“A lot of discussions happen more than deals get done,” Gutekunst said. “My thought process is always winning. Does this help us win? And if it does, then we’re going to pursue it and see if we can make it work. Again, I’ve talked about things being a puzzle and you have to make it fit. And you certainly don’t want to put yourself in a bind going forward.

“But we’re here to win now. I think as you go through that, it’s really about that. Does this certain decision, this certain player, does it help you win? And if it does, then we’ll attack that and see if we can make it work. (But) when you go through those things it’s a two-way street. It has to work that way. That’s kind of how I look at it.”

Australia assistant coach and former NBA star Luc Longley has accused Philippines coach Chot Reyes of inciting the violence that marred a World Cup qualifying match between the teams on Monday.

The former Chicago Bulls player described the bench-clearing brawl which saw 13 players, including four Australians Luke Glendening Jersey , ejected from the match as the worst thing he had seen on a basketball court.

Longley, who has been praised for his efforts to protect Australian player Chris Goulding from a large group of Philippines players, said Reyes had called on his players during a time out to ”hit somebody, put somebody on their …”

Reyes has defended the comments, which were picked up by television microphones, as a routine instruction to his players to foul on fast breaks.

Speaking to media on Wednesday, Longley rejected Reyes’ comments and criticized the Philippines players for posing for a group selfie after the brawl had abated. Basketball Australia has sought to limit further comment on the brawl which is being investigated by world governing body FIBA.

But Longley was eager to speak, condemning what he called the ”gangster” behavior of some Philippines players.

”I do believe their coach Chot Reyes incited them to come out and thug us,” Longley said. ”There’s video evidence of that.

”Then he substituted a thug out there who took three or four cheap swings at (Goulding). This is out of the party line but I’m most disturbed with their head coach. I think he was embarrassed by the way his team was playing. I think he was embarrassed by the shape they were in. I think he was embarrassed by how they fought.

”He wouldn’t look me in the eye at the end of the game when I shook his hand. I think he was embarrassed and that’s where a lot of it came from. I’m upset with him more than anybody. To let his team take gangster selfies on the baseline after something like that, that shows a total lack of control and respect.”

Longley said he felt he had no choice but to come off the bench to defend Goulding when he saw the Australian pinned under a pile of Philippines players.

”Those are the sorts of images you hope you never see, one guy lying on the ground covering up his head and being kicked and beaten by the other team, players and officials and guys from the crowd Ryan Strome Jersey ,” he said. ”It was horrifying. I wasn’t supposed to come off the bench. It was really disturbing.

”I went onto the court to protect our guys, with the idea of not hurting anyone, just putting my big body in the way.”

Basketball Australia was expected to make Goulding available to speak to reporters Wednesday but withdrew him, saying he would speak ”at a better time.”

Australian veteran Daniel Kickert who was seen to elbow a Philippines player in response to a foul on Goulding before the brawl erupted, described the violence as ”regrettable.”

”I was put in a position where I made an action that was unfortunate,” he said. ”I think I overstepped a little bit in my response to the escalation in the game.

”I’m going to let FIBA do everything they need to do and come to the answers they see fit.”

Australia coach Andrej Lemanis said he feared the brawl would make it more difficult to call on Australian NBA players for international duty.

NBA teams are often reluctant to release players as it is for the two FIBA windows, in June-July and September, that fall in the league’s off-season.

Two current NBA players, Milwaukee Bucks pair Thon Maker and Matthew Dellavadova, were on Australia’s roster for the match. Maker is facing a possible FIBA suspension after he attempted numerous fly-kicks on Filipino opponents.

”Obviously that’s one of the concerns … what it means generally in terms of players willingness to participate and put their hand up,” Lemanis said.

”We’ll see. Hopefully there’s good learnings out of this for everybody in terms of the safety and security required around the game.”

DAVIE Lee Smith Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins‘ first game in 2017 was delayed a week due to a hurricane, so it was no big deal when they needed more than seven hours to play this year’s opener.

Miami showed a willingness to wait for a win, outlasting the Tennessee Titans 27-20 in a game took longer to play than any since at least 1970. Months of preparation for the season didn’t include a plan on how to deal with a pair of weather delays lasting about two hours each.

“The coaching staff and players and staff — everybody does a good job of trying to figure out the solution,” coach Adam Gase said Monday.

They’ve had plenty of practice dealing with unusual challenges.

Last year the Dolphins lost quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a season-ending knee injury early in training camp. Hurricane Irma caused the postponement of the first game, forcing Miami to play 16 weeks in a row. Linebacker Lawrence Timmons went AWOL on the eve of the opener, and offensive line coach Chris Foerster resigned at midseason after a video appeared to show him snorting white powder.

In short, Gase has become accustomed to unexpected challenges.

“I won’t be surprised by anything,” he said. “I think we’ve almost covered everything.”

The biggest issue with Sunday’s delays, Gase said, was not knowing how long they would last.

“It’s dead time, and then you get a 10-minute warning and you have to juice it back up Joshua Garnett Jersey ,” he said.

That the Dolphins did, scoring 20 points in the final 22 minutes after the second delay. That included a 102-yard kickoff return by Jakeem Grant and a 75-yard touchdown pass from Tannehill to Kenny Stills, as well as a 54-yard interception return by Reshad Jones that helped seal the win.

“Wild game,” Tannehill tweeted Monday. “Part of me felt like we’d still be playing today. Glad to be a part of some history and get the year started with a win.”

The Dolphins had stellar contributions from Jones (two interceptions), Stills (two touchdown catches) and Frank Gore (61 yards in nine carries). But 2017 bugaboos — tackling, pre-snap penalties and third-down conversions — remained a problem, and five red-zone possessions produced only one touchdown.

Gase was especially unhappy about a third-quarter brawl after defensive tackle Jordan Phillips stood over injured Titans tackle Taylor Lewan and appeared to taunt him following Jones’ first interception.

“The fight drives me nuts,” Gase said. “I’d rather our guys celebrate with the guy who just intercepted the ball, instead of doing what happened there. We’ll address it, we’ll handle it and we’ll make changes if we have to.”

Tannehill threw for 230 yards with two scores and two interceptions. It was his first game since a knee injury sidelined him 21 months ago.

“I reflected a little bit on the grind that it was to get back here,” Tannehill said. “I tried to stay in the present as much as I could.”

Brock Osweiler was unneeded as Tannehill’s backup. On game day Gase chose Osweiler for the No. 2 job over David Fales Austin Hooper Jersey , who was inactive, but the pecking order could change.

“We’ll see how it goes going forward,” Gase said. “I like both those guys. That one is not an easy decision each week.”

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (6-10)

New faces: CB Richard Sherman, C Weston Richburg, OL Mike Person, RB Alfred Morris, LB Korey Toomer, T Mike McGlinchey, WR Dante Pettis, LB Fred Warner, WR Richie James Jr. Kentavius Street Jersey , DL Jullian Taylor.

Key losses: RB Carlos Hyde, S Eric Reid, CB Dontae Johnson, DE Elvis Dumervil, C Daniel Kilgore, T Trent Brown, LB Eli Harold, G Brandon Fusco,

Strengths: QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Track record short with just seven NFL starts. Garoppolo won all of them and earned $137.5 million contract in offseason. Thrived last season while learning offense on fly. Completed 67.4 percent of passes with 8.8 yard per attempt, seven TDs, five INTs and 96.2 rating. His 308.4 yards passing per game in five starts would have led league had he played full season.

Weaknesses: Niners did little to upgrade pass rush despite only 30 sacks last season. Dumervil cut after leading team with 6 1/2 sacks and San Francisco didn’t draft any edge rushers. Main offseason addition was Attaochu John Lynch Jersey , who had 10 sacks in four seasons for Chargers. Key to improving rush will be better season from 2017 No. 3 overall pick Solomon Thomas and more production from DeForest Buckner. Niners experimenting with Buckner on outside at times to create better matchups.

Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Marquise Goodwin. Goodwin showed he’s more than speed receiver last season. Smashed career highs with 56 catches, 962 yards in first season with 49ers. Played even better with Garoppolo at QB. Goodwin ranked in top six in catches (29) and yards (384) during Garoppolo’s five starts. Carrying that over to full season could make him one of top receivers in league.

Vegas Says: Super Bowl 28-1. Over/under wins 8.

Expectations: After 21 wins under four coaches past four seasons, Niners poised to get back into contention. Coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch began turnaround last season despite 0-9 start. Process accelerated as soon as Garoppolo arrived from New England, leading five straight wins to end year. Roster still has question marks because of season-ending injury to RB Jerick McKinnon, lack of pass rush and unknowns in secondary. But if Sherman can bounce back from Achilles tendon surgery and regain top form and LB Reuben Foster stays healthy and out of trouble, defense could be improved enough for playoff run.

Texas Tech has established a tradition of sending receivers to the NFL. Michael Crabtree Kurt Coleman Jersey , Wes Welker, Danny Amendola and Jakeem Grant have represented the Red Raiders in recent years.

The school had only two players selected this year, and both were wideouts. The Texans selected Keke Coutee in the fourth round, and Dylan Cantrell went to the Chargers in the sixth.

Coutee made second-team All-Big 12 honors last season, catching 93 passes for 1 Ethan Pocic Jersey ,429 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Although Miller is “on the right path” after offseason workouts Ahkello Witherspoon Jersey , he hasn’t found a way to stay on the field. He missed 11 games his first two seasons, making only 34 catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

That gives Coutee a chance to contribute as a rookie.

“He’s only getting better,” Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins said. “He’s always hanging around, seeing what I’m doing in between periods, asking me questions. The guy can play football. That’s going to take care of itself. Coming in Jason Taylor Jersey , learning this offense, getting in his playbook, and that’s what he’s been doing.”

The Raiders opened the day with three unsigned draft picks, but they’ve gotten down to one on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after announcing that fourth-round cornerback Nick Nelson agreed to a four-year deal, the Raiders made the same announcement about third-round tackle Brandon Parker. Defensive end Arden Key Garrett Celek Jersey , another third-round pick, is the lone Oakland selection without a contract.

Parker became the second of two tackles the Raiders took in the first three rounds when they traded up with the Ravens to secure his services. Parker was named MEAC offensive lineman of the year three times while at North Carolina A&T and did well at the Senior Bowl to bolster his draft stock this year.

Kolton Miller was the first tackle the Raiders selected and is seen as a good bet to wind up as the starter on the right side of the line as a rookie. Parker may not have the same path to early playing time, but it remains to be seen how things play out this summer.

Former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. says he battled depression during his 16-year career with the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens.

Smith Kurt Coleman Jersey , who retired after the 2016 season and now works as an analyst for the NFL Network, told NFL.com that despite making five Pro Bowls and being selected All-Pro twice he “routinely felt trapped, inferior and alone” and often asked himself “what’s wrong with me?”

The 39-year-old Smith said by his final season with Carolina in 2013 he was so overwhelmed he didn’t know how to handle his emotions and “was a cynic of everything and everyone.”

Smith says he’s been receiving treatment for depression and advised others to do the same, saying “stop trying to deal with these serious matters alone.”

Panthers coach Ron Rivera praised Smith for speaking out on the topic.

DENVER (AP) — Chicago quarterback Mitch Trubisky and Denver QB Case Keenum feel better about their respective offenses after starting out faster and finally moving the chains Saturday night.

“Scoring points always feels better,” said Keenum, who led two scoring drives in three possessions one week after his dud of a Denver debut.

Trubisky also bounced back from a dismal debut last week by connecting with Trey Burton for his first score of the summer.

“We can find answers in this offense,” said Trubisky, who’s learning first-year coach Matt Nagy’s philosophies. “The playmakers are going to get open. It’s my job to get them the ball.”

Keenum’s new backup Chad Kelly threw another touchdown pass after leapfrogging Paxton Lynch, but it was Bears backup Chase Daniel who had the best night of all.

He led Chicago’s fantastic finish by throwing for a pair of touchdowns in the final five minutes Saturday night to spark Chicago’s come-from-behind 24-23 win.

With the Broncos in control at 23-10 Duke Riley Jersey , Lynch entered the game to a thunderclap of boos, which only increased through three drives that went nowhere.

“Well, I feel bad for Paxton, but our fans want to win,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said. “That’s what it’s about, it’s about passion, I should say. But I feel bad for Paxton. But he has to ignore it and go play. It’s professional football. No one’s going to hold your hand, so he has to go out there and perform.”

Lynch played poorly again.

A week after his 24-yard performance led to his demotion, he threw for just 39 yards on 5-of-11 passing with a pair of sacks.

He nevertheless had the Broncos (0-2) in field goal range when he hit Isaiah McKenzie on a short slant route and the speedy receiver who fumbled six times as a rookie Harrison Smith Jersey , coughed up the football on second effort at the Chicago 37 and linebacker Isaiah Irving recovered it with 58 seconds left.

The Broncos can only hope McKenzie doesn’t crumble from his latest fumble.

“He’s a good young player, he’s had a good camp and he played well last week, so hopefully it doesn’t set him back,” Joseph said.

Daniel threw a 2-yard TD pass to running back Taquan Mizzell with 4:38 left and then hit tight end Ben Braunecker with 1:53 remaining to tie it. Pat O’Donnell’s extra point gave Chicago (1-2) its first lead.

BOUNCE-BACK

After a pair of three-and-outs last week, Keenum rebounded from another three-and-out to lead two scoring drives on his final two possessions, finishing 8 for 13 for 78 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kelly had his second straight strong showing, this one just 48 hours after general manager John Elway indicated he might have to go in search of a veteran backup quarterback if he can’t trust either Kelly or Lynch to come in and win games should Keenum get hurt.

Even though Kelly’s three TDs are the only ones thrown by Denver’s quarterbacks so far, Joseph’s not ready to say he can trust him to be one play away from starting when the regular season begins.

“I can’t speak for two weeks down the road here,” Joseph said George Fant Jersey , “but right now he’s our backup quarterback.”

Trubisky threw for 90 yards and a touchdown on 9-of-14 passing. He also threw an interception and was tackled by first-round pick Bradley Chubb for a safety after the shotgun snap from the 1 went off his hands.

Trubisky said he’s feeling more and more comfortable in Chicago’s new offense.

“We’re still hiding a bunch of good stuff, too,” Trubisky said. “We’re not showing all of it.”

Kelly completed 7 of 9 passes for 90 yards and capped his first drive of the night with a 16-yard touchdown toss to rookie Courtland Sutton .

MILLER STARTS

Von Miller , who was held out at the last minute a week earlier, made his preseason debut for Denver and played a couple of series. Miller said he wasn’t upset by the decision last week to sit him against the Vikings but said he did want to play.

SMITH SITS

Bears rookie linebacker Roquan Smith has practiced in pads just once since January, so it wasn’t a surprise he was in street clothes Saturday night. Earlier in the week he became the last member of the 2018 NFL draft class to sign his contract and reported 30 days late.

“The timing wasn’t good,” to play in a game this week, Nagy said.

FLAG FOOTBALL

There was an incredible 293 yards in penalties, many of them of the new helmet-hit variety.

“I’m hopeful it won’t look like that” in the regular season Mark Bavaro Jersey , Joseph said.

NATIONAL ANTHEM

Just like last week, Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas weren’t on the sideline for the national anthem. Thomas (wrist) didn’t suit up.

INJURIES

Bears TE Adam Shaheen injured his right ankle on the game’s first drive and LB Leonard Floyd left with a hand injury.

S Will Parks said he avoided a serious knee injury. McKenzie, who had called for a fair catch on a punt, was evaluated for a concussion after Deiondre’ Hall’s personal foul tackle. WR Jordan Leslie left with an injured left hand.

NEXT UP

Bears: Host Chiefs on Aug. 25.

Broncos: Visit Washington on Aug. 24.

Carson Wentz was having an MVP-caliber season before a torn ACL forced him to the sideline Philip Rivers Jersey , where he watched Nick Foles lead the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory.

Wentz has a mission to return for Week 1 and is already ahead of schedule after being cleared for 7-on-7 work last week. Still, he has a way to go before he is cleared for full activity.

”It’s just a process,” Wentz told The Associated Press. ”There’s the mental side of it, feeling comfortable with it, but also the physical limitations that the doctors put on you and you have to trust what they’re saying. If I could tell you I’d be ready Week 1, I would. I just don’t know. It’s a fluid process. That’s obviously the goal but so far things have been great.”

Wentz’s comeback comes with interesting circumstances: He has no pressure to return right away because the Eagles can lean on the Super Bowl MVP to start the season. And that’s not necessarily a threat to Wentz, whose friendship with Foles doesn’t have the strain seen in other famed NFL tandems like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers or Joe Montana and Steve Young.

”We’ve become so close ever since he first got here,” Wentz said. ”Developed a real friendship, a real relationship, more than just a working relationship, a true friendship.”

Wentz admits it was difficult to see someone else hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy on stage first. But the two quarterbacks are more like brothers than competitors for the starting job.

”It’s human nature to want to be on that podium and be the guy,” Wentz said. ”You grow up wanting to be there Robert Quinn Jersey , but not being able to be up there, there’s nobody I’d rather have up there than Nick.”

Eagles coach Doug Pederson has made it clear there’s no quarterback controversy in Philadelphia since the minute Foles finished a sensational performance in the 41-33 win over the Patriots. When he’s healthy, Wentz is the guy. He’s the face of the franchise.

”I still believe this is Carson’s team,” Pederson said Tuesday. ”There are no egos involved. They’re in this thing together. Both support each other. Nick supported Carson during the season last year, and then Carson turned around and supported Nick at the end of the year.

”Their relationship has carried over into this spring and summer, and it’s really good. I see them working in the classroom. I see them working on the field. They keep talking. They want to get better individually. They want to get our team better. And so it’s been a really good, really good dynamic between those two.”

Foles has maintained since he replaced Wentz last December that he understands his role is the backup. He wants to start again in the NFL, but was happy to stay in Philadelphia.

”I’ve shown what I can do,” Foles said. ”I love the team and I love the city. I’m excited for Carson to get back.”

While he was focused on rehabbing and returning to the field as quickly as possible, Wentz pursued other interests during the offseason. He went to Haiti for the second time in less than a year in April – teammates Zach Ertz, Nate Sudfeld and Rashard Davis joined him – and launched plans for his Audience of One Foundation to build a sports complex in that country.

”Being able to partner up with Mission of Hope in Haiti and to see how everything is so Christ-centered, they had a sports complex in thought so we were on board for that Eric Rowe Jersey ,” Wentz said. ”I know how sports changed my life, how so many doors have opened up and how my faith has grown through guys who have mentored me in sports. Just to know that can be given and provided to the people in Haiti, it’ll really change their perspective on so many things and restore some dignity and hope. It gets me fired up and I’m excited to go back and be hands-on and see the impact it’s making.”

Wentz then held the inaugural AO1 Foundation charity softball game at the home of the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1, drawing more than 25,000 fans who came out to see the Super Bowl champs compete in a home run derby – left guard Stefen Wisniewski was the winner with a fantastic power display – and a game that featured Foles and 23 other Eagles.

”The brotherhood we have on this team, we’re so close,” Wentz said. ”We genuinely care about each other. A lot of unselfish players. To see these guys come out (to support me) is so humbling.”

Before the game, Wentz also revealed a 25-foot food truck named ”Thy Kingdom Crumb” that will begin delivering free food to people in the Delaware Valley in August. The partnership between AO1 and The Connect Church aims to provide food not only to people in need but others in the community also.

”The goal is to provide something different, to provide the atmosphere to just love on people,” Wentz said. ”I think things that are free these days are kind of confusing. There’s no strings attached with this. I think people will just see and experience something different with that.”

Make no mistake, despite all his outside interests, Wentz is determined to help the Eagles become the ninth team to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

”The biggest thing is the culture of excellence that we’ve created Cameron Meredith Jersey ,” Wentz said. ”I don’t see why the sky can’t be the limit for us again. Our roster is rock-solid and our camaraderie and our culture is still rock-solid and growing. We have high expectations.”

AP NFL website: Rick Spielman came to this year's annual NFL scouting combine with a quarterback quandary.

He has two first-round draft picks trying to recover from injuries and a third-stringer, who led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship game.

Now, instead of reaping the benefits of his smart moves and abundant riches, Spielman faces one of the most challenging decisions a general manager can with all three set to become free agents in less than two weeks.

"I believe in Case Keenum," Spielman said Wednesday, the first full day of activity in Indianapolis. "He did a phenomenal job and he has a knack for making big plays. We're very excited about what he was able to accomplish."

The more telling question might be how eager others around the league to sign Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford?

Spielman is running short on time as the carousel spins. He says he won't make any decisions until he returns to Minneapolis next week.

Meanwhile, the offseason has started with a bang.

Alex Smith was traded from Kansas City to Washington, essentially assuring Kirk Cousins becomes a free agent. Blake Bortles and Jimmy Garoppolo each signed contract extensions with Garoppolo getting a reported five-year, $137.5 million deal. Garoppolo won his first five starts in San Francisco after a midseason trade from New England and is now 7-0 as a starter.

The new deals have Green Bay contemplating a new deal for Aaron Rodgers. New general manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged "it's not going to be inexpensive."

But this could be just the start to a wild and wooly offseason.

The free agent market opens March 14 and Keenum, Bridgewater and Bradford could all be attractive options for quarterback-needy teams.

Keenum seemed to find a home last year after spending two-plus seasons in Houston and two-plus seasons with the Rams.

Bridgewater was considered the Vikings' next big star until he tore the ACL and dislocated his knee in August 2016. He made it back briefly late last season and now the Vikings await a ruling that could force Bridgewater to stick around one more season before hitting free agency.

Spielman doesn't sound hopeful about Minnesota's chances.

"I don't personally believe, with what I know today Janoris Jenkins Jersey , that his contract will toll," he said.

One big advantage the Vikings have: They know Bridgewater's prognosis and exactly where he stands in the rehab process.

Bradford, the 2010 NFL offensive rookie of the year, missed all but two games last season with a knee injury and there are long-term questions about the stability of his left knee. The 30-year-old has a long history of injuries but a needy team might be willing to take a calculated risk on the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner and top pick in the 2010 draft.

Other prominent names could be on the move, too.

Cousins and Mike Glennon are expected to be available after the Bears announced Wednesday they would release Glennon, and 39-year-old Drew Brees will be a free agent if he doesn't re-sign with the Saints in the next two weeks. The conventional wisdom suggests Brees will remain in New Orleans.

Then there's the trade market.

Coach Sean McDermott said Buffalo does not intend to cut Tyrod Taylor but could trade him. And if the New York Giants decide to rebuild with a young quarterback, 37-year-old Eli Manning could hear his name bandied about.

One team that seemed to take itself out of the discussion is reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.

Executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman appears to be in no hurry to change anything with starter Carson Wentz recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee, especially after backup Nick Foles led the Eagles to their first NFL title since 1960.

"We're trying to keep as many good players as we can," Roseman said. "That room is exactly what we want it to be. We have a franchise quarterback, a Super Bowl MVP and we have a young quarterback (Nate Sudfeld) who we like."

The Buffalo Bills took the first step in restocking their quarterback position by agreeing to a two-year contract with A.J. McCarron.

The 27-year-old spent the past four seasons backing up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati after being selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.

McCarron's signing on Wednesday came a few hours after the NFL's free-agency period opened Josh Sitton Jersey , and five days after Buffalo traded three-year starter Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland. The trade left 2017 fifth-round pick Nathan Peterman as the only quarterback on Buffalo's roster.

General manager Brandon Beane said he intended to add a veteran quarterback this offseason to provide experience.

With two picks in each of the first three rounds of the draft, Buffalo also is expected to target one of the highly touted quarterback prospects.

McCarron was a two-time national champion at Alabama but appeared in just 11 games in Cincinnati, mostly in mop-up duties. McCarron did start the final three games of the 2015 season and led the Bengals to the playoffs after Dalton broke his thumb.

Against Pittsburgh in the wild-card playoff game, McCarron had the Bengals in position to win their first playoff game since the 1990 season. Jeremy Hill however lost a fumble, and penalties on Vontaze Burfict and Adam "Pacman" Jones set up the Steelers for a winning field goal in the final seconds.

Though he missed his rookie season because of a sore passing shoulder, McCarron was allowed to become an unrestricted free agent after an independent arbitrator ruling last month. McCarron was also nearly traded to Cleveland last season, but the deal fell through after the Browns failed to submit the paperwork on time.

Back in the playoffs for the second straight year for the first time since 2003 and 2004 Kyle Lauletta Jersey , the Milwaukee Bucks can hardly afford a second straight slip-up when they face the New York Knicks on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Two days after allowing the Brooklyn Nets to claw back from a fourth-quarter deficit, the Bucks head over the Brooklyn Bridge to square off with a Knicks squad that rebounded from a 73-point performance with a 122-98 win over Miami on Friday night. Before the game, the Knicks were the coldest team in the Eastern Conference, losers of four straight.

And speaking of cold: The Bucks had better heat up in a hurry after shooting 25 percent from 3-point range against the Nets in the 119-111 loss.

“We couldn’t shoot it in the ocean,” Bucks forward Jabari Parker said. “They did a really good job, though, you got to put your hands up to them.”

The Bucks hardly did that on defense against the woeful Nets Corey Linsley Jersey , allowing Brooklyn to shoot 48 percent from 3-point range in the loss.

With the Bucks having an outside chance at the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, now is no time for Milwaukee to get lazy on defense.

“This would not be good enough to win a game in the playoffs,” Bucks coach Joe Prunty said. “I’m not worried about the playoffs right now. … We need to play very good basketball regardless of our opponent and tonight is an example of (not playing well enough).”

In the Knicks, the Bucks find a team with any postseason hopes long in the rear-view mirror. The Knicks are out of the playoffs for the fifth straight year and, if anything, the team appears to be playing for better lottery odds.

Too bad they dealt themselves too good a hand on Friday.

A 24-point win over the Heat put the Knicks a game behind the Chicago Bulls for the eighth-worst record in the NBA, and every lottery ping-pong ball matters.

“If you ask any of the players or coaches Jarius Wright Jersey , that’s not (a thought),” Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters early this week. “We’ve said it all along that that’s not what we’re trying to do. With the guys out there, we’re trying to win the game, and that’s what we want from them.”

The two teams will meet for the fourth time in nine weeks, with Milwaukee claiming a 3-0 lead in the season series. The Bucks beat New York 92-90 at home on Feb. 2 and followed four days later with a 103-89 road win. A little over a month later, the Bucks again won at home, 120-112 Jimmie Ward Jersey , behind Khris Middleton’s 30 points. Middleton has kicked up his scoring of late, scoring 31 against the Nets, six days after producing 28 points in a 124-122 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

After Saturday’s matchup, the Knicks close their season with a home-and-home against the Cleveland Cavaliers, beginning Monday at Madison Square Garden for the final time this season before heading to Cleveland on Wednesday to wrap up the campaign.

Milwaukee hosts Orlando on Monday before heading to Philadelphia to play the 76ers on Wednesday for the Bucks’ final regular-season game.

On Sunday Andrew Luck will play in a regular-season NFL game for the first time since the end of the 2016 season. That will be a return to the field that he once feared would never happen.

As Luck spent all of last year rehabbing from shoulder surgery Mike Pouncey Jersey , he feared he might never be able to play again.

鈥淚 was scared, scared in my core, in my insides. There was a time I was very scared about football, and about my place in football,” Luck told the Indianapolis Star.

Luck said that during the worst of his attempts to throw through shoulder pain, it nearly tore his life apart.

鈥淚 was a sad, miserable human,鈥?he said. 鈥淚 was not nice to myself Barkevious Mingo Jersey , nor was I nice to anyone else. I was a miserable SOB to be around. I was nervous. I was scared.鈥?/p>

Now, Luck says, he’s feeling good about himself. He’ll hope that on Sunday against the Bengals, he can finally show that he’s capable of being the old Andrew Luck again.

As he prepares for his second season, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can sense the difference and so can his teammates.

It's the faith in him and the leadership he's showing.

"I love the position I'm in and the leadership role," Trubisky said Wednesday.

"I have to know the guys are looking at me. Come out every day and bring the energy and make sure I'm taking care of my business so that everyone else's job is easier around them, too. That's what I'm trying to do and I love the responsibility and I'm just very excited for the continuous opportunities to move forward and move this team."

How far the Bears go largely hinges on the development of their quarterback.

General manager Ryan Pace banked on a big payoff when he traded up a spot with San Francisco last year to draft Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick. He then largely designed the offseason game plan around his young quarterback.

The Bears hired the offensive-minded Matt Nagy off Andy Reid's staff in Kansas City to replace the fired John Fox and overhauled their receiving group, with Allen Robinson the most notable addition.

They also added some potential difference makers in the draft Kyle Lauletta Jersey , taking Iowa lineman James Daniels and Memphis receiver Anthony Miller in the second round.

More than anything, they believe they surrounded Trubisky with the pieces he needs to reach his potential and invigorate a struggling franchise.

The Bears have four straight last-place finishes in the NFC North and just one playoff appearance since the 2006 team reached the Super Bowl.

Along with the new additions, the Bears are seeing a more comfortable and confident Trubisky.

"He is in more control now," running back Tarik Cohen said. "He knows the players. He can really call us out. When you're a rookie, you're hesitant to really jump on guys. He's taken over more of the reins. He's in the driver's seat now."

It's a different feeling for a quarterback who wasn't even supposed to play last season. With just 13 college starts at North Carolina, the Bears planned to have him watch from the sideline.

Instead, Mike Glennon struggled and Trubisky started the final 12 games. It was a tough spot for a raw but talented rookie.

And though he showed some promise, he clearly had room to grow. It didn't help that he was working with a struggling receiving group hit hard by injuries.

It all added up to an offense that ranked 30th overall and finished in the bottom half for the third time in four years.

But whether it's the new system and pieces around him or just the fact that he's no longer a rookie Dwight Clark Jersey , Trubisky is more comfortable. He's embracing the responsibility that comes with his role, and he can sense the mounting faith in him.

"Nothing gives me more confidence than when my teammates believe in me," Trubisky said.

He's still facing a steep learning curve. The same goes for his teammates and the coaches. They're all adjusting.

"That's part of being out here, too, with these guys, the nuances of things, the year-to-year editing that you do," new offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said.

The system is "100 percent" Nagy's Duron Harmon Jersey , Helfrich said.

As for Trubisky?

"I really like his mindset," Helfrich said.

He sees a quarterback who's not afraid to ask questions as he grows into the job.

"I think we all see through his eyes on a lot of things and through his brain and how he thinks through things," Helfrich said.

"That's a big part of it, too is just learning how that guy sees things and being able to talk and teach to that. Today he made some mistakes, today he corrected some guys, but he'll throw that away and build from the good stuff and continue to kind of add a little bit more each day."

NOTES: WR Kevin White said the conversation with general manager Ryan Pace was "clean cut and smooth" when he found out the Bears weren't picking up his fifth-year option. He also said he is feeling "really good" as he works his way back from a broken shoulder. Drafted seventh overall in 2015 and Pace's first pick as a general manager, White has been limited to five games because of leg and shoulder injuries.

For the first time since 2004 Andrus Peat Jersey , the Minnesota Timberwolves are entering May without their customary collection of good-luck charms for the NBA draft lottery.

The longest-running absence from the playoffs in the league finally over, the Wolves took a significant accomplishment into the summer after their 47-35 record during the regular season tied for the fifth-best in franchise history.

”When you haven’t done something for 14 years, it’s a major step for our organization, and it’s not easy to do. Winning in this league is very difficult, and we should understand that,” said president of basketball operations and head coach Tom Thibodeau, who joined general manager Scott Layden on Monday for a wrapup news conference.

Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns gave the Timberwolves multiple representatives at the All-Star game for the first time since Kevin Garnett and Sam Cassell in 2004 on their way to the Western Conference finals. That was the most recent postseason appearance until the first round series with Houston tipped off earlier this month. With 16 out of 41 home games declared sellouts, they had their highest number since 1991-92, and local television ratings were way up, too.

Still Y.A. Tittle Jersey , in typical Timberwolves fashion, the road to relevancy was not without potholes.

Falling in five games to the Rockets was forgivable, considering their opponent had the NBA’s best record, but the Wolves were beaten a total of eight times by the league’s bottom eight teams that all won fewer than 29 games. Win just two of those, and they’re in third place in the West with a much more favorable matchup for the playoffs.

With Butler the resident alpha male in the locker room, the Wolves can no longer be considered an up-and-coming atmosphere where patience with the development of young cornerstones Towns and Andrew Wiggins will be welcomed. With the presence of Butler and the other acquisitions from last year, Taj Gibson, Jeff Teague and Jamal Crawford, there’s clearly a win-now window in place.

”They’ve learned what it takes to get yourself to the playoffs,” Butler said. ”Now us as a whole John Miller Jersey , we have to figure out what it takes to win, whenever we get there. No matter what seed we are, that’s what we’re expected to do.”

Layden wondered aloud whether the Wolves should have been more aggressive to acquire a new player at the trade deadline in February.

”We had a lot of things that went back and forth, and maybe we should’ve done something a little different,” Layden said. ”I take responsibility for that, but we’re always looking to push and push and get better.”

BUTLER’S HEALTH

Thibodeau has always leaned heavily on the starters he trusts the most, and this season with the Wolves was no exception. Butler was third in the NBA with an average of 36.7 minutes played per game, and coincidentally or not he missed 23 games, all but two because of trouble with his right knee. Thibodeau said Butler will not need an additional procedure.

Butler can also opt out of his contract after next season, without an extension in place.

”It’s important for him to feel good about everything that we’re doing here Michael Strahan Jersey ,” Thibodeau said.

LONG RANGE

The Wolves actually led the NBA during the playoffs with a 41.3 percent make rate from 3-point range, but part of the problem is a lack of space in the playbook for setting up attempts from beyond the arc. They finished last in the league in the regular season with an average of eight 3-pointers made per game.

”I thought our guys in the second half of the season were doing a very good job of looking for opportunities, but we do have to take more,” Thibodeau said.

Even owner Glen Taylor, in an interview earlier this month with his hometown newspaper, the Mankato Free Press, openly questioned the lack of improvement.

”If other teams can learn to shoot 3s, why can’t we?” Taylor told the Free Press.

WINNING WITH WIGGINS?

The maximum contract the Wolves gave Wiggins last summer will kick in next season, paying the 23-year-old more than $25 million. There’s no player on the roster who will be under more pressure to be more consistently productive on both ends of the court.

”The experience of the playoffs was huge for him. He did a lot of good things,” Thibodeau said. ”I think we saw down the stretch him playing a more complete game Brian Poole Jersey , and I think he can build off that.”

BJELICA

Nemanja Bjelica, who played both forward spots off the bench and was a relatively productive starter during Butler’s absence, will be a restricted free agent. His playing time was scant during the playoff series, which Thibodeau said was matchup-related.

”But I thought overall he played really well for us,” Thibodeau said. ”Sometimes you have to put the team first.”

The Los Angeles Chargers probably are ready to start looking for offense in the NFL draft.

The Chargers used their first three picks on defensive players over the first two days. They still have several potential needs on offense, even though nearly every significant piece of last season's powerful offense is returning.

The Bolts could use a skill-position player who can return kicks Saturday. They also need depth on the offensive line, particularly at right tackle, where they were expected to find a potential backup this weekend.

Los Angeles chose Florida State safety Derwin James in the first round. The Bolts added Southern California linebacker Uchenna Nwosu in the second round and North Carolina State defensive tackle Justin Jones in the third.

When the Ravens drafted quarterback Lamar Jackson Blidi Wreh-Wilson Jersey , it meant backup quarterback Robert Griffin III has a steeper path ahead of him to make the roster. But Griffin isn’t really competing with Jackson for a roster spot: Jackson’s spot behind Joe Flacco is assured, and the only real question is whether the Ravens keep Griffin as a third quarterback. So Griffin doesn’t see Jackson as competition.

Instead, Griffin sees Jackson as a talented young player not unlike himself six years ago, and as a player who could use some guidance from someone who’s been there.

鈥淚鈥檓 trying to help nurture him as much as I possibly can,鈥?Griffin told SI.com, 鈥渟o that when he flies away, he is ready to fly away. Because when you watch it fly away, at that point it鈥檚 up to that bird.鈥?/p>

Griffin was the 2012 rookie of the year but hasn’t been the same player since a knee injury in the playoffs after that rookie season. He hopes he can help teach Jackson to have lasting success.

鈥淚 try to take that and look at it in a positive way to try to help Lamar navigate a lot of the things that I had to navigate on my own,鈥?Griffin said. 鈥淚 feel like he really trusts me and believes what I鈥檓 telling him and I think that鈥檚 made him a better player already in a short amount of time.鈥?/p>

The Ravens would love to see Jackson play the way Griffin did before his knee injury — as long as Jackson’s success lasts longer.

Walt Coleman doesn’t see the revamped catch rule as a big change for NFL game officials because the veteran referee believes they’ve already been calling catches the new way.

If anything, Coleman figures there will be fewer reviews of their rulings.

”Most of the calls that seemed to create the most controversy Tedy Bruschi Jersey , we ruled them correctly and then they were overturned on replay,” Coleman said Friday as officials gathered for their annual preseason meeting in the Dallas area. ”From our standpoint, we’re just going to continue to officiate the plays like we have.”

League owners unanimously approved the changes in April – more than three years after Dez Bryant’s infamous catch that wasn’t in Dallas’ playoff loss at Green Bay, and just a few months since Pittsburgh’s Jesse James had a late go-ahead touchdown taken away in a loss to New England that damaged the Steelers‘ hopes for the AFC’s top seed.

Essentially, the new rule eliminates the ground as a factor on catches while establishing three main criteria:

-having control of the ball;

-getting two feet down or another body part;

-making a football move, such as taking a third step or extending the ball.

On the plays involving Bryant and James, the ball moved slightly after hitting the ground as they extended it forward, even though they never lost control of it. Both were ruled catches and overturned on review.

”I don’t think it was one thing,” senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron said. ”I think we got to a point where fans, the office Rodney Hudson Jersey , coaches, players, wanted to see more exciting plays. How do we make this particular play a catch? How do we take the Dez Bryant play and make it a catch?”

Riveron said the competition committee consulted with coaches, former players, game officials and supervisors, among others, to reach the rule change that was approved.

The committee cited overturned receptions by James and fellow tight end Zach Miller of Chicago last season among the dozens of plays they reviewed ”dozens of times,” according to committee chairman Rick McKay, president of the Atlanta Falcons.

Ron Torbert, going into his fifth season as a referee and ninth overall as a game official Cameron Jordan Jersey , doesn’t think the new rule is just about simplicity.

”We had a good idea of what it was and how to officiate it,” Torbert said. ”We certainly understand that the way it was written, plays that people wanted to be a catch weren’t a catch under the older rule. We understand that.”

And while game officials are hesitant to share opinions on anything related to their role, they can see where fans sit with the catch rule.

”I think fans will like it more because we’ve got some of the greatest athletes in the world who can do things that no one else can do,” Torbert said. ”To be able to see them rewarded with a catch when under the old rule, it may not have been a catch, I think from that standpoint the fans will enjoy the game more.”

Coleman, getting ready for his 30th NFL season, was in his third year as a referee when he called the reversal in the ”tuck rule” game during the playoffs following the 2001 season. He changed what had been ruled a fumble by New England quarterback Tom Brady to an incompletion, leading to a winning field goal that sent the Patriots on their way to the first of five Super Bowl titles.

While he didn’t make the call on the Bryant catch that was overturned (recently retired Gene Steratore did) Justin Hardy Jersey , Coleman saw similarities in how reactions to the two calls lingered for years. And he certainly heard from fans on the catch rule in general .

”People just didn’t understand that you had to hold on to the ball going to the ground,” Coleman said. ”When you catch the ball and you reach out, everybody thought that should be a catch. The way the rule was written, it wasn’t.”

And now the way the rule is written, it is.

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas is not happy with his contract Logan Thomas Jersey , and there has been talk all offseason that he could get dealt to the Cowboys. That talk is not going away.

The latest comments come from Bryan Broaddus, a writer for the Cowboys’ website, who said on 105.3 The Fan that there’s still a possibility Thomas could end up in Dallas.

“The Cowboys have to look at their situation at safety and figure out is this going to be good enough? Are we able to compete for a division? To get in the playoffs? Could Earl Thomas be a guy, could he be a difference maker? Tom Brady Jersey ,” Broaddus said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I feel like that the Earl Thomas situation still is in play. It’s just a matter of where Seattle is going to be. I don’t believe Earl Thomas is going to sit out games for Seattle. I really, really don’t. You’re talking about a guy that makes over $10 million. Players just don’t leave those checks on the field just for principal, for that reason. I think that Seattle is going to have to figure out something. The Cowboys are going to have to figure out something. And maybe they do work something out there.”

Reports came out during the draft that the Cowboys and Seahawks discussed a trade Jaleel Scott Jersey , but that the Cowboys wouldn’t give up the second-round pick the Seahawks were seeking. That still sounds like too steep a price, but perhaps something could be worked out to get Thomas in Dallas.

The New York Knicks have hired former NBA coach Keith Smart and three others as assistants on David Fizdale’s coaching staff.

Jud Buechler, Pat Sullivan and Royal Ivey were also added Thursday to join Fizdale, who was hired last month to replace Jeff Hornacek.

Smart coached Cleveland Bryan Bulaga Jersey , Golden State and Sacramento and was most recently an assistant to Fizdale, and later J.B. Bickerstaff, in Memphis. He also was an assistant along with Fizdale in Miami, working under Erik Spoelstra.

Sullivan and Ivey have both been NBA assistants. Buechler spent the past two seasons as the Lakers‘ player development coach.

The Knicks are preparing for their first draft under Fizdale and pick ninth. They worked out Villanova’s Mikal Bridges on Thursday and will bring in Duke’s Wendell Carter Jr. on Friday.
