Good morning Y’allAs always Larry Warford Jersey Stitched , for our novice readers or non-New Orleanians, welcome! Let’s start with some definitions:Beignets (English: /b蓻n藞je瑟/; French: [b蓻刹蓻], ben-YAY literally bump) are distinctly New Orleans, a delicacy intimately connected to the city’s rich French heritage. Best enjoyed heavily powdered with sugar.Caf茅 au lait (/藢k忙fe瑟 o蕣 藞le瑟, k忙藢fe瑟, k蓹-/; French: [kafe ol蓻]; French for “coffee with milk”) is a delicious New Orleans way to start your day. This is your “After-Saints-Game” breakfast, where we talk about the state of the Black and Gold, we debate the goings-on in the NFC South, and paint the playoff picture in the NFC up to this point of the season. So, sit back, take a bite and a sip while your brain slowly wakes up, and let’s catch up on some football. *What Just Happened? The Champs are dead, long live the Champs! There will be a new Super Bowl champion in the 2018-19 NFL season, as the New Orleans Saints cast a spell on Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday in a hard-fought, come-from-behind 20-14 win in the NFC divisional playoffs. It looked bleak early Youth A.J. Klein Jersey , as the Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Little did they know that they wouldn’t score again for the rest of the game, while the Saints would put up 20 points on the board and that would be enough.Philadelphia’s loss means that there still won’t be a repeat Super Bowl winner since the New England Patriots won the Lombardi trophy in 2003 and 2004. It is hard to win in the NFL playoffs, so let’s bask in this victory for a while, because the Saints are now in the NFL’s Final Four and that elusive Two Dat is getting tantalizingly close. It is at this stage of the playoffs last year that the Saints lost in crushing fashion in Minnesota. The loss was the third in a row for New Orleans in the divisional round (2011 in San Francisco, 2013 in Seattle, 2017 in Minneapolis). With about 2:01 remaining in the game yesterday, it looked as though the Saints were headed for another heartbreaking playoff loss. But when Marshon Lattimore picked off Nick Foles at the Saints’ 19-yard line with 1:52 left in the game, it felt as if the Saints, the city of New Orleans and Saints fans everywhere all exhaled: The rust is gone, the three-game losing streak in the divisional round of the playoffs is gone, the Super Bowl beckons. Let’s geaux!*Five Numbers...That Don’t Lie171: The number of receiving yards by wide receiver Michael Thomas yesterday against the Eagles. Thomas had 12 receptions on 16 targets (a 75% catch rate), a long of 42 yards and one crucial touchdown that gave the Saints their first lead of the afternoon. The 171 receiving yards were a Saints’ single-game franchise record in the playoffs. B-A-L-L-E-R!11. Minutes and 29 seconds. With the Saints trailing 14-10 and 13:09 left in the third quarter, New Orleans took the ball at its own 8-yard line. 18 plays, 11:29 minutes and 112 yards later (by virtue of overcoming penalties), the Saints led 17-14 and would not look back. In the game White Morten Andersen Jersey , New Orleans held the ball for 37:50 minutes, a preposterous advantage in time of possession of more than 15 minutes over the Eagles (22:10 minutes).6: And O! Bet against Drew Brees and Sean Payton at home in the playoffs at your own risks: Since 2006, the Saints are 6-0 in the Superdome in the playoffs. On the road? Just 1-5. In other words, if I were the Los Angeles Rams, I would not feel too confident right now.3: There have been ups and downs for the Saints in the Payton/Brees era, but next Sunday will mark their third appearance in the NFC Championship Game. What we have been witnessing from the Black and Gold for the last 13 years is awesome, let’s enjoy the heck out of it, Saints fans.0: The number of points allowed by the Saints to the Eagles after they scored their second touchdown with 4:37 left in the first quarter. Philadelphia had 199 net yards at halftime. They finished the game with 250 net yards. In other words, the Eagles gained only 51 net yards in the entire second half. Whoever sleeps on the Saints’ defense isn’t paying attention.*Beignets and Caf茅 au Lait AwardsFresh Beignets with Hot Coffee: Saints fans in the Superdome. I was incredibly proud of Saints fans, as they affected the Eagles several times in the game. Once crucial instance occurred with 14:11 to go in the third quarter: The Eagles had a 2nd-and-7 at their own 28-yard line but had to burn a precious timeout because of confusion in their huddle. That’s Dome Field Advantage right there.Stale Beignets with Day-old Coffee: The Achilles-tearing Turf. Injuries are part of the game, but when they happen and are severe, it is always a bummer. Saints’ defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins reportedly tore his Achilles tendon with 7:13 left in the first quarter of yesterday’s game. If confirmed, the injury means that Rankins will miss the rest of the postseason. Typical post-surgery recovery time for Achilles tendon injuries varies from 4 to 6 months, so Rankins should be ready to go for the start of the 2019-20 NFL season. We wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully his Black and Gold buddies win it all for him. In a sad coincidence, Eagles’ guard Brandon Brooks also tore his Achilles tendon during the game.*Super Bowl OddsAccording to fivethirthyeight.com Morten Andersen Jersey 2019 , the Saints have the best odds of reaching the Super Bowl at 64%, followed by the Chiefs (61%), Patriots (39%) and Rams (36%). New Orleans also has the best odds to win Super Bowl LIII at 33%, in second place are the Chiefs (31%) followed by the Patriots (19%) and finally the Rams (17%). It seems as though despite the fact that the Saints aren’t blowing teams out anymore, the oddsmakers still believe that they are the top of the four teams still alive. I completely agree with them.Super Bowl odds courtesy of fivethirtyeight.com*What’s Next? The Saints will play the Los Angeles Rams Sunday at 2:05 PM CT in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the right to play in Super Bowl LIII on Sunday February 3, 2019 in Atlanta. Back on November 4, 2018, the Saints defeated the Rams 45-35 in a barn burner that saw New Orleans blow a 35-14 lead, but pull away late to secure the win. The Rams stamped their ticket to the NFC title game by defeating the Dallas Cowboys 30-22 in a game that was not as close as the final score indicates. Los Angeles, like Philadelphia yesterday, has revenge on its mind and now boasts a two-headed monster in the backfield, with the unexpected strong play of running back C.J. Anderson to complement Todd Gurley. The Saints, who have an excellent run defense, will probably elect to put the game in Jared Goff’s hand and take their chances in coverage. It certainly worked yesterday against Philly. Getcha popcorn ready, this one’s gonna be a doozy!*Hey A.J. Klein Jersey Stitched , get some work done! Unless you’re still drunk from celebrating yesterday, then keep reading!2 Ups and 2 Downs from yesterday’s loss to the Bucs Well that one stung, didn’t it? The New Orleans Saints continue their putrid record in Week 1 games. But in what was another roller-coaster of a game with plenty of ups and downs along the way, here are a couple that stood out.Photo by Wesley Hitt/Getty ImagesUp: Drew BreesDrew Brees deserved to win this game.He finished the game 37/45 for 439 yards, 3 TDs, a two-point conversion, and no interceptions. He nailed short throws and intermediate throws, and still showed plenty of zip on the ball. After the Saints traded for Teddy Bridgewater to possibly fill in as the QB of the future in New Orleans, as early as next season, Drew Brees is putting to bed the talks that he doesn’t have anything left in the tank.Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty ImagesUp: Alvin KamaraHe couldn’t really get anything going in the running game consistently (with only 29 yards), but he did finish the game with 141 total yards of offense and 3 scores. He showed multiple times why he was the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year, looking every bit as explosive and elusive as he was in 2017. Multiple times he looked like he was going to be cornered for a loss or minimal gain, but he would just turn on the jets and fight for extra yards. On the other hand, he did show that running between the tackles is still not his strong suit, so it will be interesting to see how Kamara is used going forward.Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY SportsDown: the rest of the Saints offenseAs great as Kamara and Brees were in this game Youth Ted Ginn Jersey , the rest of the Saints offense left a lot to be desired. The Saints struggled to find running room as a team, feeling the effects of Mark Ingram’s suspension, rushing for only 43 total yards in the game. Cameron Meredith was inactive. Tre’Quan Smith was targeted once with zero catches. Michael Thomas, for as great a stat line as he put up in the game (180 receiving yards and a TD), he had two critical mistakes in the game. He dropped an easy completion for a first down that ended up resulting in a Saints punt and points for the Bucs, and then later lost a costly fumble that, again, resulted in points for the Bucs. Mike, you’re better than this. And speaking of “Mike’s,” Mike Gillislee - you’ve already been cut from one team for fumbles. Don’t make it another.Chuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsDown: the entire Saints defenseDefense?!WHAT defense?!I honestly cannot think of anything the Saints defense did well in this game. They generated absolutely no pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick (with zero sacks and only two QB hits). They struggled to stop the run. There were multiple botches in coverage. They couldn’t turn the ball over. All in all, it was an absolutely terrible showing for what is supposed to a promising group of defensive players.Go get ‘em next week, boys.

It’s almost time for Week 4’s Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions game to kick off, and when it does a lot of anxiousness will be in the air.Cowboys fans everywhere are doing everything they can to will the team to a 2-2 record. Winning cures a lot in the NFL Youth Deonte Thompson Jersey , and this has been a long week following the second road loss of the season. Dallas is undefeated at home for now, and it would be great to establish some sort of home-field advantage. While we’re getting ready for the actual game there is another game that we can all ready ourselves for... BTB Bingo! Here’s this week’s card.Perhaps the most predictable thing is that it’ll be noted how Matthew Stafford played high school football at Highland Park in Dallas. You have definitely had this factoid shoved in your face thousands of times may or may not have known this, but he played little league baseball with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw as well. The Lions are a sneaky rival of the Cowboys. Think about the close games we’ve played against them in years past. There’s the Bobby Carpenter game (sigh) Deonte Thompson Jersey Stitched , the Calvin Johnson game (double sigh), and the last playoff victory the Cowboys had (hooray!). Coincidentally, this is also on the card Youth Marcus Martin Jersey , both teams in this contest last experienced playoff wins against one another. Which row or column will strike first? Which square is the most likely? Let’s party.

Making matters worse, the Colts lost several more key players on Thursday night. Nevertheless, the Colts were able to keep this game within striking distance before it got out of hand in the fourth quarter. There were several players getting important snaps towards the rest of the season, as this only improves the depth in my opinion. Matthew Adams and Zaire Franklin received large workloads with Darius Leonard out, and maybe most impressively, Braden Smith filled in at right tackle and played very well. The Colts only allowed a single sack, but it was the team’s receivers who couldn’t get up to play well in this one. Over the past two weeks the Colts pass-catchers have been cursed with awful hands totaling nearly a dozen in just 5 days of time. Eric Ebron still made a lot out of a short week as he hauled in 2 touchdowns with a 105-yard performance in Foxboro.I’ll go through a quick review of the Colts 38-24 loss and address all of the above and much more.We will also take a quick look at the remaining games for the Colts, including the final three games before their bye week. We know the percentages are not in favor of the Colts making a realistic playoff run, so how does the rest of it look Indianapolis Colts Robert Okereke Jersey , with what we know about the Colts themselves, and the rest of their opponents?Additionally, I take you inside the progression of the Colts’ PFF grades through Week 5. Again, much of what we think we saw Thursday night rings true with the way the grades panned out. However, there are some serious head-scratchers in there too. A couple of the Colts offensive linemen have been graded out pretty close to how consistent they’ve been thus far, while another couple have improved their grade tremendously, while another continues not to get the credit for his play. There are even some grades in which I felt the evaluators were too generous. How they are crediting for positive versus negative continues to be on display, and a little off-base, in their weekly updates for my liking. The Colts are missing some important pieces going into Week 6. If they want to make something of this season, they’re going to need to come back sooner rather than later. Please subscribe, rate and review the show anywhere you listen to podcasts.Stampede Blue Podcast Links:Apple Podcasts | Stitcher | Art 19 | SB Colts Cast YT Channel | Google | Spotify

Cleveland Browns Run Pass Options Various forms of Run Pass Options or RPOs have been the subject of NFL headlines since Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles rode them all the way to a Super Bowl victory last year. Though Pederson’s offense was mocked by NFL players as “High School Offense David Njoku Jersey Stitched ,” no one could stop them. Not even when starter Carson Wentz went down with an injury and Nick Foles stepped in. Not even defensive genius Bill Bellichick on the biggest stage of them all.Though they are derided by some as “gimmicky,” or a “phase,” I believe that RPOs are here to stay. Unlike the Wildcat (which was a fad and relied on an unprepared defense), defenses can’t tell what is coming based on the formation. And unlike the brief stint of QB runs and read option we’ve seen in the NFL, RPOs typically don’t put the franchise player in harm’s way. This is fundamentally sound football, and it works. And RPOs have a history of success in the NFL dating back to at least the Brett Favre New York Jets days, why would they suddenly stop working now?RPOs give the quarterback literally that; an option between handing the ball off on a run play, or passing the ball to an eligible receiver. The offensive line blocks for the running play immediately on the snap, and the back assumes he is getting the ball. Any receivers involved in the pass option run their routes like they normally would on a called pass. The quarterback chooses which play is best for the offense (usually by making a simple read of one or two defenders), and delivers the ball. It’s practice-efficient football, because neither the line nor the receivers are doing something new.A taste of their own medicineAgainst Pederson’s Eagles OC Todd Haley wasted no time introducing some RPOs of his own, calling for one on the very first play of the game:From a 2x2 Pistol formation Orange Chad Thomas Jersey , the Browns sent Jarvis Landry in motion to ID the coverage. As he saw the CB follow Landry, QB Tyrod Taylor could assume man to man coverage. The Eagles are in a single high safety look, which means they have an extra safety in the box to stop the run. The weakness of this defensive look is that with only one safety deep the Eagles’ corners are either going to play off coverage or they are going to really risk getting beat deep. Before the snap you can see the CB playing off of Landry, which is when Taylor makes his read. The ball is going outside. On the snap the line blocks for the outside zone running play to the left, as RB Carlos Hyde anticipates getting the handoff. Having made his read, Taylor delivers the ball to Landry, who runs a 1-step “stay” route. The ball gets to Landry for only a 1 yard gain, but with the corner closing hard and a shifty receiver like Landry in space, good things are bound to happen for the Browns.Landry makes a nice move and picks up 11 on the play. Getting the ball to playmakers in space like this is something any good offense does. With this type of RPO, you can ensure your playmakers are put in favorable positions when they get touches.Picking up where he left off in collegeLater in the game, Baker Mayfield got in on the action. Facing a 2nd and 10, Mayfield could be seen making a signal to WR Jeff Janis. He likely saw that the Eagles had stacked the box with 10(!) defenders Chad Thomas Jersey 2019 , making it almost impossible to run the ball. Sure enough, on the snap, the line and RB Nick Chubb are running inside zone to the right, as Mayfield throws a quick slant to Janis. This is a safe and relatively easy way to pick up 5 yards on 2nd and 10. Throwing this type of quick pass is probably a lot more reliable than running into a 10 man box, and if Janis is able to break a tackle he could legitimately take this in for a touchdown.Drew tooNot to be left out, QB Drew Stanton also threw to the pass option off of this look in the 4th quarter. Facing an 8 man front, Stanton knew that the Browns’ 7 available blockers likely would not get the job done in the running game. After sending WR Da’Mari Scott in motion across the formation, Stanton saw the same off coverage on WR Jeff Janis that the Browns had been seeing all night. On the snap RB Nick Chubb and the offensive line are still running the inside zone play, but Stanton fires the ball to Janis.Unfortunately on this play, Janis drops the ball despite it hitting him right in the gut. Running the ball is all about arithmetic. If you don’t have enough people to block all of the defenders on a given play, running the ball typically won’t work. When called intelligently and executed well, RPOs ensure that offenses have favorable numbers in the box for their runs. If they don’t Cleveland Browns Damarious Randall Jersey , the quarterback simply goes elsewhere with the ball. And “going where the defense is not” is what good offense is all about.I counted no less than 7 of these RPOs in the Browns’ Week 3 preseason game. Not all of them worked as intended, but between Todd Haley’s use of tempo and these RPOs it will be very interesting to see how the offense coalesces in the regular season. Though this isn’t saying much, the 2018 Browns’ offense might be the most advanced and intelligent the franchise has seen since the return. Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the Pro Football Writers of America’s Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.Mayfield is the first Browns player to be honored with the award, which has been presented on a mostly annual basis by the organization since 1966, when Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker Tommy Nobis took home the honors.Joining Mayfield on the All-Rookie team is cornerback Denzel Ward. Mayfield threw for a team-record 3,725 yards in 2018, which is also the sixth-best mark by a rookie in NFL history. His 27 touchdown passes broke the rookie record of 26, which had been shared by Peyton Manning (1998 with the Indianapolis Colts) and Russell Wilson (2012 with the Seattle Seahawks). The Browns offense and Mayfield took off once Freddie Kitchens took over as offensive coordinator midway through the season, which helped Mayfield become just the third quarterback in league history to throw at least one touchdown pass in each of his first 10 starts, finishing the season with a touchdown pass in each of the final 13 games and two or more touchdown passes in nine games overall.Other highlights, according to the PFWA’s press release, include Mayfield:leading all 2018 NFL rookies in passing yards Womens Damarious Randall 2019 Jersey , passing touchdown, completion percentage and passer rating (93.7)being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 16being named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month for Novemberthrowing for a franchise rookie single-game record of 397 yards and a touchdown against the Houston Texans in Week 13throwing for 351 yards in the second half against the Texans, becoming alone the first NFL quarterback since 2012 to hit that markthrowing four touchdown passes against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12, another franchise rookie recordMayfield is also one of five finalists for the NFL’s fan-voted Rookie of the Year award, joining Browns running back Nick Chubb, running back Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, linebacker Darius Leonard of the Indianapolis Colts, running back Phillip Lindsay of the Denver Broncos.

Neither did Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo.Stroman was upset when replaced in yet another game where he received little run support, and the Blue Jays lost to the Chicago White Sox and Iván Nova 7-2 Saturday.Stroman (1-6) exchanged words with Montoyo and pitching coach Pete Walker after he was replaced by Derek Law with runners at the corners in the seventh.“That wasn’t a disagreement. That was just me upset coming out,” Stroman said. “I was just frustrated, I wanted to stay in the game. I don’t think there’s anything wrong that.”Montoyo insisted he had no problem with Stroman’s reaction or his pitcher’s competitive nature.“Honestly, I really appreciate when guys get upset, like they don’t want to come out of the game MLB Jerseys Wholesale ,” Toronto’s first-year manager said. “I don’t want people to be happy when I take them out.”Stroman allowed four runs — three earned — and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. He has lost three straight starts and has a losing record despite a 3.12 ERA.Stroman was later seen holding a calmer discussion with Montoyo and Walker.“We cleared it up right after the inning,” Stroman said. “Nobody is even slightly upset.”Stroman also waited on the top step of the dugout to greet Law after he escaped the jam, allowing one run to score.Stroman has received eight runs of support in nine appearances, and Toronto has failed to score while he was on the mound in six of those outings, including the last three.“Every little thing that he does seems bigger because there’s no runs on the board when he’s pitching,” Montoyo said.Nova (2-3) allowed one run and five hits in six-plus innings to win his second straight start.“I was throwing strikes today and limited the damage,” Nova said.Evan Marshall, Kelvin Herrera and Alex Colomé followed with an inning each, and the White Sox stopped a three-game losing streak.Toronto has lost nine of 11, and the Blue Jays have scored two runs or fewer in seven of their past nine games.James McCann matched his career-high with four hits. He singled in the second and seventh innings, and doubled in the eighth and ninth. He raised his average to .376 in 91 plate appearances.Blue Jays rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2 for 2 with two walks in his first multihit game. His first-inning single had a 118.9 mph exit velocity, the second hardest-hit ball in the majors this season behind a 120.6 mph drive by the New York Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton on March 28.Yolmer Sánchez hit an opposite-field homer to left in the third, and Yoán Moncada added an RBI single later in the inning.Nick Delmonico chased Stroman with an RBI single in the seventh. Sánchez bunted in a run against Law for a 4-0 lead.Randal Grichuk homered for the second straight day, a leadoff drive in the seventh.MAKING MOVESToronto acquired RHP Edwin Jackson from Oakland for cash. Montoyo said Jackson will likely join the Blue Jays in time to start at San Francisco on Wednesday. Toronto currently has four starting pitchers on the injured list, including right-handers Clay Buchholz (shoulder) and Matt Shoemaker (out for the season after knee surgery), and left-handers Ryan Borucki (elbow) and Clayton Richard (right knee). When the 35-year-old pitches for Toronto cheap jerseys , it would be his record 14th big league team.“Edwin Jackson is a perfect fit right now,” Montoyo said.MOM’S THE WORDStroman said his conversation with Montoyo ended with a question about his mother, Adlin, who is scheduled to celebrate Mother’s Day by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch Sunday.“I’m going to teach her some things today after the game,” Stroman said. “Hopefully, she delivers a strike.”FOUR PLAYGuerrero Jr. (20 years, 56 days) became the youngest player in Blue Jays history to reach four times in a game. ST. PETERSBURG replica MLB jerseys , Fla. (AP) — In a season full of strange twists so far, the New York Yankees turned a couple of odd hops into their latest victory.Domingo German became the majors’ first seven-game winner, Gio Urshela got a key hit set up by a pair of bizarre bounces and the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Friday night. The injury-filled Yankees pulled within a half-game of the AL East-leading Rays in the first of 19 meetings between the teams this season. New York has won 15 of 20 while often relying on its non-All-Stars — the team currently has a dozen players on the injured list, including Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Severino.“They’re focused everyday but also playing the game with some joy and having fun doing it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “It’s a close-knit group that’s playing an unselfish brand of baseball.”German (7-1) was matched up against Tyler Glasnow (6-1), who left in the sixth inning with right forearm tightness.“I don’t really know what’s going on right now,” said Glasnow, who will have an MRI Saturday. “I’m just going to be optimistic. It wasn’t a pop or anything crazy. I just felt tightness for a couple pitches.”Glasnow struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings. He signaled for a trainer after striking out Gleyber Torres and was pulled.German allowed three runs and five hits over five innings. Aroldis Chapman, the fourth Yankees reliever, worked the ninth for his ninth save.Home runs by Austin Meadows and Ji-Man Choi gave the Rays a 3-2 lead entering the sixth.Gary Sanchez opened the Yankees sixth with an infield single on a popup that struck the highest of four overhanging catwalks — approximately 185 feet high — and fell in the infield as Tampa Bay players scrambled to catch the carom. The park’s ground rules say such balls are in play.“Fortunately deflected far enough that we got a break there,” Boone said. It’s the fifth fair ball to hit the “A” ring at Tropicana Field — which opened in 1998 — and second that resulted in a hit.Clint Frazier followed with a single and Torres fanned, finishing Glasnow. Emilio Pagan relieved and Miguel Andujar hit a grounder that took a crooked hop off the mound and went for an infield single that loaded the bases. Urshela then delivered a two-run single for a 4-3 lead.“Probably our MVP at this point,” Yankees reliever Adam Ottavino said.On Thursday night MLB Jerseys Wholesale From China , Urshela entered in the seventh for defense and hit a two-run single in the eighth of a 3-1 victory over Seattle. The Rays loaded the bases on two walks and a bunt single in the seventh. But Ottavino escaped by striking out Tommy Pham and getting Choi to hit a grounder off the pitcher’s leg that second baseman DJ LeMahieu fielded, raced to second for an out and threw to first to complete a nifty double play.“I was fired up,” Ottavino said. “It was a grind of an inning.”Meadows, reinstated from the 10-day injured list after missing 15 games with a strained right thumb, hit a two-run homer and Choi added a solo shot two batters later off German as the Rays went up in the fifth. German had allowed just two homers overall in six previous starts.New York took a 2-0 lead in the first when LeMahieu scored on rookie Nick Ciuffo’s passed ball and Torres’ RBI single.Torres was hit on the right elbow by a pitch in the eighth inning but stayed in the game.“We’ll have to see what kind of swelling is in there,” Boone said. “But hoping that he avoided something serious.”TRAINER’S ROOMYankees: LHP Jordan Montgomery (Tommy John surgery) will increase from 30 to 35 pitches and start incorporating curveballs in his next bullpen session Tuesday. “I’m starting to kind of see some light at the end of the tunnel in the bullpens when I’m throwing the ball and it’s going where I want it to,” Montgomery said. … LHP James Paxton (left knee inflammation) is playing catch.Rays: 3B Matt Duffy (left hamstring strain) is scheduled to resume a rehab assignment with Class A Charlotte Monday.CHAD’S COMINGBoone said reliever Chad Green could rejoin the team from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this weekend. He was optioned April 23 to work on mechanics after going 0-2 with a 16.43 ERA in 10 games.UP NEXTYankees LHP CC Sabathia (2-1) will go against Rays opener Ryne Stanek (0-1) on Saturday night. Only the NFL could react to a controversy that calls into question the legitimacy of a Super Bowl participant by implementing a fix that wouldn’t have avoided the controversy. That’s what the Competition Committee has done https://www.ramsfanstore.com/Pharoh-Cooper-Jersey , by recommending an expansion of replay to “include all fouls for pass interference, roughing the passer, and unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture.” The proposal won’t apply where a foul isn’t called, meaning that replay review won’t be available when the officiating crew fails to call pass interference or unnecessary roughness against a defenseless receiver.Meaning that replay review wouldn’t have been available in the Rams-Saints NFC Championship, when Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman wiped out Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis. The Competition Committee also has not proposed an AAF-style Sky Judge, which would make available visual evidence part of the first look Mark Barron Color Rush Jersey , not part of the replay process. If available and properly implemented, that would have allowed for the on-field failure of the officiating crew to be rectified in real time. There’s still hope. The people who own the teams, and thus own the league, can reject the failure of the Competition Committee to fix the situation, and they can implement a rule that properly addresses the situation. They need to; for all the excuse-making and hand-wringing over “unintended consequences,” the Competition Committee’s proposal could tend to cause more flags to be thrown Rob Havenstein Jersey , since the protection afforded by this proposal becomes available only when penalties have been called. So the ball is in your court, owners. The Competition Committee has failed. Let’s see if you’ll do what should have been done in the NFC title game and overturn the ruling on the field. When the Browns copied the Philly Special earlier this year Drew Bledsoe Jersey , former Cleveland coach Hue Jackson tried to claim that they hadn’t. (Former Cleveland offensive coordinator Todd Haley blew Jackson’s cover, one of the tangible examples of the dysfunction that got both of them fired.) When the Saints scored the first touchdown of the game on Sunday night in Minnesota, New Orleans coach Sean Payton was copying a play that the Patriots had used a week earlier. And Payton wasn’t afraid to admit it. In fact, he was (and should be) proud of it.The touchdown came on a quick pass from quarterback Drew Brees to running back Alvin Kamara, who was crossing in front of Brees in motion, from left to right. The play, intended to be used close to the goal line, resulted in a score.鈥淭hat was a play seen the week before, Patriots vs. Bears,鈥?Payton told Albert Breer of SI.com. 鈥淕reat idea. It fit with what we were doing and had nothing to do with the Vikings. And yet, it applied to their defensive structure. And so, certainly, most of the week is spent watching your opponent鈥檚 tape, and yet there鈥檚 still going to be a part of the week devoted to the league.鈥滻t’s nothing to be ashamed of. Preparing for a game entails so much more than studying the opponent’s film and self-scouting tendencies and tells. It requires applying a broad lens to everything happening in the league, because something someone else has done may be the perfect play to use against an upcoming foe.鈥淲e have to [do that]. Yeah Montee Ball Color Rush Jersey , we have to,鈥?Payton said. 鈥淭he last thing you want is some trading tip that鈥檚 going hot on the floor, and you just didn鈥檛 pay attention to it, and everyone else is. Very quickly in our league, a new thought or an idea shows up.鈥滻t’s one of the reasons why coaches work so hard and sleep so little during the season. Every waking moment can (and should) be devoted to searching for anything and everything that can make a difference when it’s time to kick the ball and start playing. The coaches who make the most efficient use of that time are more likely to be successful and, ultimately, to remain employed in an industry where so many end up being fired. As great of a player as he was, Gronk may have been a better teammate."I know that Tom Brady is the GOAT, but I think people love Rob Gronkowski just as much, if not more. He’s just such a meat head, but also has such a kind heart. Every time you saw him, he was always smiling and laughing. He also gave back more to the community than any player I’ve ever seen. Seemed like he was always at the hospital, not having surgeries, but visiting sick kids and making their days brighter. He’s going to be missed probably more than I can put into words, but https://www.patriotsfanstore.com/Malcom-Brown-Jersey , position-wise, he’s as good as Brady: by far the best tight end to ever play in the league, and maybe the most complete skill position player of all time. I don’t know if I could pull out a singular moment from his career, but, at least once a game, he would do something that would make you look at the person next to you and say “How the hell did he do that?”The catch in the corner against the Broncos, the one handed reception at the goal line against the Broncos, dragging six Redskins 40 yards, and a million other plays. He also stepped up in the biggest moments, making two insane catches in Denver in the 2015 playoffs, both on fourth down, the touchdown against the Seahawks, and the catches this year against the Chiefs and Rams. There’s no one else I would rather throw the ball to with the game on the line. The Patriots have always been able to overcome the personnel losses they have had without skipping a beat. I would imagine things might be different this year. It’s not that they won’t be good, it’s that Gronkowski is literally impossible to replace. He was a once in a generation talent, and a once in a generation personality. That’s one underrated thing about Gronk: everyone loved him.New England is a tough place to play Shaq Mason Color Rush Jersey , and you need guys who can lighten the mood and make everyone laugh. Gronk has always been that type of guy, and that will be sorely missed in the locker room. There will be other great tight ends, it’s even possible that the Patriots could draft one next month, but there will never be another Gronk. He blocked like a third offensive tackle, and was a matchup nightmare on every pass play. My assumption is that the Patriots know that, and won’t try to replace him with just one player. Whatever their answer is, they have a lot of work to do. They have minimal depth at the wide receiver position, and even less at tight end. Helping put Tom Brady in a position to win a seventh ring should be the only priority right now. Of course, Gronk’s agent insinuated a simple phone call mid season might be able to sway him back to the team. After all, who can say no to Tom Brady? At the end of the day, it’s hard to feel anything but happiness for Gronk, though. He gave everything he had to the Patriots for nine years, and, even when his body failed him, he stepped up and put everything on the line for his team. Knowing the shape that his back was in LaAdrian Waddle Jersey , and that he was playing through an injury at the end of last season, it’s no surprise that he walked away now.If he is, in fact, done playing football, he went out on just about the highest of notes possible: not only did the Patriots win the Super Bowl, but he had two of the biggest plays of the postseason in two huge moments. As good as Gronk was, he never had that signature play to win them a playoff game or a Super Bowl. He got both of those this postseason. The Chiefs play was just pure physical domination against one of the premier safeties in the league. Then, against the Rams, it was the mix of a perfect throw and an amazing catch. Those two plays will serve as the icing to an already impressive cake. Patriots fans will miss Gronk, although I’m sure we’ll see him around. Any time I’m missing him, I’m going to imagine him making jokes about a specific number and spiking random household items. That will be sure to leave me with a smile on my face, which isn’t surprising, because that’s what always seems to happen when Gronk is around. The idea that the Alliance of American Football is positioning itself to be a feeder league for the NFL isn’t a new one. After the first weekend of games Travis Benjamin Color Rush Jersey , at least one NFL General Manager thinks it can be a useful tool.Via聽Eric Williams of ESPN.com, Chargers G.M. Tom Telesco came away with a positive impression, and said he’ll send scouts to their games in the future.“It’s a great idea,” Telesco said. “It has the potential to be a nice complement to the NFL. It’s a great spot for a developmental league for players, but even aside from that 鈥?coaches and front office, officiating, athletic trainers and video equipment people, public relations 鈥?all of that, so I think it’s a great place where people can develop in every department of football operations. Every department that touches a football team can get some real life experience.”Telesco’s support isn’t surprising, considering his mentor Bill Polian’s one of the league’s co-founders. But he plucked a pair of AAF players during the NFL playoffs Keenan Allen Color Rush Jersey , bringing kicker Nick Rose and adding linebacker Tyrone Holmes to his practice squad.“With San Diego close and Arizona pretty close, it will be pretty convenient for us [to scout],” Telesco said. “It’s a place where young guys can go play.“No. 1, you get a chance to go play football and get paid for it, so that’s nice. No. 2, you get great coaching. And No. 3, you get a chance to put tape together so the NFL can evaluate you again. Most of these guys we’ve seen before, but it give them a chance to develop and learn, get better at their craft and get it on tape.”The NFL hasn’t had their own developmental league since shuttering NFL Europe in 2007. For the Chargers, it is no different as there is plenty of speculation as to what the team will do when they are on the clock tomorrow night. Josh Rosen: Smoke or fire? There has been a plethora of whispers the last several weeks about the Chargers as a possible team that would be willing to execute a trade for Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Josh Rosen. On Monday, Adam Schefter reported that the Giants, Chargers and Dolphins are the three “primary” teams in play for the former number one pick. The Cardinals have been holding out for a first round pick in exchange for Rosen Jatavis Brown Color Rush Jersey , but are unlikely to get that value in return. But rumors began to circulate around the Chargers being interested in parting with their second round pick (60th overall) to acquire Rosen as a developmental QB to mold behind Philip Rivers.Earlier this week, General Manager Tom Telesco spoke with the Media and had this to say regarding the possibility of Los Angeles making a trade for a potential Rivers’ successor During the free agency period, the Chargers signed Tyrod Taylor to a two-year $11 million deal, giving the team a capable veteran backup. Taylor’s contract is another reason to believe that the Chargers wouldn’t be a serious candidate for Rosen as the team would be taking on an additional cap hit at the QB position on top of giving up draft capital. Time will tell on If the smoke surrounding these rumors has any fire behind it. Moving down?Since he became the GM of the Chargers in 2013, Telesco has had a reputation of keeping the Chargers draft strategy close to the chest. This year, Los Angeles owns the 28th overall selection, which brings a number of different possibilities along with it. One of those options could be to trade out their first round spot and move down to acquire more picks. On Monday, Telesco addressed the possibilities of trading down. The Chargers have not selected this late in the draft since 2007. Depending on how the board falls to them, Los Angeles could be open for business to negotiate with teams looking to get back into the tail end first round. What are the experts saying?Mock drafts have peaked our interest for the last several months. Now with only one day remaining until Draft Day, here are the latest predictions from analysts on what the Chargers will do with their first round selection:CBSSports.com’s Ryan Wilson: DT Dexter Lawrence-Clemson“Don’t be fooled by his 6-foot-4 Rayshawn Jenkins Color Rush Jersey , 342-pound frame” Wilson says.“Dexter Lawrence is an incredible athlete and while first appearance might suggest otherwise, he’s a three-down player. For some perspective on just how versatile he is, during the 2018 season Lawrence ranked fourth in Pro Football Focus’ pass-rush productivity metric and was sixth in run-stop percentage. There’s also this: In Los Angeles, he’ll be bookended by Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa. Good luck stopping that.”ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.: DT Jeffery Simmons- Mississippi State“I thought the Chargers might target a defensive tackle with the 17th pick last year, but Vita Vea and Daron Payne were both off the board. They ended up with Derwin James, one of the best picks of the entire draft, but still have a need along the interior of their defense. Simmons might not be picked in Round 1. He tore his ACL in February and could redshirt this season. But he’s a top-15 talent, and he’s going to be on my Big Board. And he could be a steal here.”The Draft Network’s Benjamin Solak: OT Dalton Risner-Kansas State“I think Risner is worth a look at tackle where his length and technique both shine” Solak says. “Players with slower feet and less explosiveness than Risner have survived out there, though there is some concern with Risner’s balance when faced with shifty rushers. Either way, love his energy and tone-setting aggression.”NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah: CB Rock Ya-Sin -Temple“There are other needs here -- safety and defensive tackle among them -- but it was apparent that the Bolts need to add some talent on the outside based on their performance against the Patriots in the Divisional Round of last season’s playoffs.”Pro Football Focus’ Steve Palazzolo: S Nasir Adderley-Delaware“The Chargers are strong all-around defensively Justin Jones Color Rush Jersey , but Adderley adds a true free safety to pair with strong safety Derwin James. Adderley has incredible range and ball skills on the back end, evidenced by his 89.9 coverage grade, six pass breakups and five interceptions last season. Adderley and James are perfect for their respective roles and one of the best young safety duos in the game.”USA Today’s DraftWire’s Luke Easterling: CB Byron Murphy-Washington“There are bigger needs elsewhere on the roster, but the Bolts need to pounce on the value here. Murphy is the most complete corner in this year’s class, despite concerns about his lack of size or speed.”The Draft Network’s Trevor Sikkema: DT Jerry Tillery-Notre Dame“The Chargers need some new blood on that interior defensive line” Sikkema says.“They have Bosa and Ingram on the edges, but they’re not getting enough pass rush from their inside guys, at least if you ask me. Tillery’s stock is rising, but there is still a chance he could be available here. If the Chargers can get their hands on him, he’d become an instant starter. He would give Los Angeles a 3-tech pass rush threat next to Brandon Mebane.”

The Saints cannot afford to overlook the Bengals in Week 10 We’ll continue a series of opponent preview posts for the New Orleans Saints opponents in 2018. We’ll round out the series previewing one of our AFC opponents: the Cincinnati Bengals. Our friends over at Cincy Jungle took some time to give us Saints fans the scoop on the home of elite WR AJ Green.Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesWeek 10: at the Cincinnati BengalsNotable free agent additions:Not really a free agent Cheap Kaden Elliss Youth Jersey , but the Bengals acquired Cordy Glenn in a trade with the Bills and he will be starting at left tackle. In free agency, the Bengals added defensive tackle Chris Baker, who will play a pivotal role on the defensive line and replaces Pat Sims who the team did not re-sign in free agency. The Bengals’ biggest free agent acquisition was 2017 tackle leader and former Bills linerbacker Preston Brown who will help stop the run, which was a major weakness for the Bengals in 2017. And, former Giants offensive lineman Bobby Hart was also added in free agency and will compete for the starting right tackle role.Over/Under:6.5 wins: I’d go with the over as I expect the Bengals to get to eight wins. I’m not overly optimistic about the season as a whole, but I don’t think there’s going to be a regression from last year’s seven-win season. Most exciting rookie:I’m excited about too many rookies, but I’d say safety Jessie Bates, the Bengals’ second round pick. He has a decent shot at starting games, not necessarily in Week 1, but as the season goes on. He’s a ballhawk, playmaker and his football IQ is off-the-charts. It’s also funny to say, but I’m super excited about first round pick and former Ohio State center Billy Price. Bengals fans are obsessed with the center position New Orleans Saints Kaden Elliss Jersey , which has seen Russell Bodine struggle for four years. Now with a first round pick at the position, things should be trending upward.Position battle to keep an eye on:The wide receiver position battle is going to be really fun to watch as there are so many impressive young guys looking to make their mark. There are more good players than thre will be roster spots at the position. Biggest storyline heading into training camp:The offensive line is the biggest story of training camp as last year’s unit was abysmal and now the team has a new offensive line coach in Frank Pollack, formerly of the Cowboys. Both the right guard and right tackle spots are open for taking and the competition is going to be interesting. There’s not tons of talent competing for the jobs, but there are some young guys looking to take big leaps. Under-the-radar storyline heading into training camp:It’s not particularly under the radar, but the Bengals have tons of new coaches who need to whip their units into shape. Marvin Lewis is still head coach (ugh) but there are many new faces among the coaching ranks. Teryl Austin joined the team this offseason as defensive coordinator and he’ll need to build upon a defense that started out 2017 hot, but fizzled out. He has top-tier players at his disposal. How will he use them? Can he help guys like Dre Kirkpatrick to improve? He’ll need to. How Austin transforms the defense and builds upon the things they were already doing well will be key elements to defining the Bengals’ season. If Austin impresses, he has the fast track to becoming Lewis’ successor once he finally steps down or is fired, the former being more likely.Notable injuries heading into training camp:Tyler Eifert鈥?as always. The star tight end claimed he was fully healthy when the Bengals re-signed him in free agency, but then he was limited during spring workouts and Marvin Lewis was PISSED. There’s a definite fear that he will show up to training camp not fully healthy and then there’s always a fear that he’ll be injured during the season鈥?again.***The Saints have a tough stretch with the Falcons, Eagles, Rams, and Vikings within a 5-week period. The Bengals are the lone AFC opponent in that stretch Womens Kaden Elliss 2019 Jersey , and could easily be a trap-game for New Orleans. So what says you, you unbiased Saints fans? Can the Saints win an important game on the East Coast? Vote in the poll. Explain in the comments. And make sure you also check out DraftDividends.com, a website for a new book I’m writing currently titled Draft Picks and Dividends: A Fantasy Football Player’s Guide to Understanding the Stock Market. How did the Saints spend their summer? The New Orleans Saints have been busy in the months leading up to training camp, working out privately with personal trainers and their more-experienced peers.Let’s take a quick look around the roster to see how different players are preparing:There’s been a lot of noise made over how “raw” Davenport is coming out of the gate, especially his lack of experience in a three-point stance. He’s had a busy summer since getting drafted, working out with other rookies on the beach in Los Angeles and attending Von Miller’s Ozarks Mountains retreat, featuring guest coaches like Bruce Smith and Warren Sapp.We know Davenport will enter training camp ready for action after a minor thumb injury sidelined him in OTA’s.I’m eager to see how he develops under defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen’s instruction.Marcus Williams ended his rookie year with a big mistake that we won’t discuss further in this space. He apparently locked himself in a gym for the next six months, motivated to be the best version of himself. Now the sophomore looks the part of a Mr. Universe competitor, and maybe a Pro Bowl safety.Send thoughts and prayers and good vibes to whichever poor receiver (Mike Evans) is going to get tested by Williams first on an ill-advised sideline jump ball (from Ryan Fitzpatrick) first (week one, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). On the other side of the ball, Saints left tackle Terron Armstead has been going through the ringer at Duke Manyweather’s offensive line training facility.Manyweather is an innovator in training techniques for linemen, and has recently been working with clients like Armstead New Orleans Saints Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Jersey , Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson, and Jacksonville Jaguars tackles Jermey Parnell and Cam Robinson. Now that he’s back to his old self after a few untimely injuries, Armstead should cement himself as a top five left tackle in the NFL.Alvin Kamara went viral earlier this summer for hauling a Jeep and loaded squat rack down the road, but he’s also kept busy by putting on a couple of youth football camps in Chattanooga and New Orleans.Michael Thomas (now bulked up to about 220-pounds) flew out to join Drew Brees near the future Hall of Famer’s San Diego home to practice timing routes and keep fresh during the long break between OTA’s and training camp.Even the special teamers are getting in good work.Saints placekicker Wil Lutz first took the field on the coaching staff for the Kohl’s College Football Kicking Camp, then worked out last week with his NFL peers at Kohl’s facilities to warm up for training camp. That’s not to mention the different team-building exercises the Saints players have taken on.Cameron Jordan took the team bowfishing one night, and seemingly everyone but Kamara caught something.Kamara found payback by challenging his teammates and fans to paintball, and is apparently still-undefeated weeks later. The coaches got involved, too, with Sean Payton losing a couple of bets on the green to Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.Payton’s golfing shenanigans only got worse, and it’s fair to think he’s more ready than anyone to get back to football:

Could the Cowboys go safety with their first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft?"If there’s one thing the Cowboys like in their defensive backs Womens Emmitt Smith Jersey , it’s versatility. Darnell Savage Jr. is one of the more versatile safeties in the 2019 NFL draft, but that’s not the only thing Savage brings to the table. Along with his tremendous versatility to play either free, in the slot, or in the box, Darnell Savage also has one of the highest ceilings in this draft class due to his athletic ability and instincts.Savage was a big winner of the combine after posting a 4.36 40-time, 39.5” vertical jump, 126.0” broad jump, and 7.03 three-cone drill. All of these numbers match the tape, as Savage consistently showed the ability to cover with range, change directions, and play the run. With his athletic ability, Savage is also a very consistent tackler using good technique to wrap up, but also has the ability to be an enforcer across the middle of the field as well. Savage’s ball production increased each year at the University of Maryland, recording zero interceptions in 2015, one interception in 2016, three interceptions in 2017, and four interceptions in 2018.In Darnell Savage Jr., the Cowboys would be getting a guy that could play in a role similar to what Xavier Woods plays now, but with much more upside and athletic ability. Having two safeties that can be interchangeable, while also playing at a high level would be a huge upgrade for the Dallas secondary. Deionte Thompson - Alabama - 6’2” 194-lbsPhoto by Michael Reaves/Getty ImagesIn Deionte Thompson, we have a guy that plays with a similar skill set to Earl Thomas. Now I’m sure you’re wondering why a player with a Earl Thomas like skill set would be available at the end of the second round? Well, unfortunately for Thompson the last few months of his football career hasn’t been the greatest. Thompson had his struggles at the end of the season for Alabama, and then he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist that held him out of the combine, and likely will hold him out of his pro day. Could the injury mixed with the lapses in play at the end of the season allow him to fall into Dallas’ lap? While we touched on the negatives, there are plenty of positives with Deionte Thompson. Actually, far more positives than negatives. Thompson plays with tremendous range from the single-high position. Along with his range, Thompson plays with athletic ability and instincts which allow him to make plenty of plays on the ball in coverage. He showcased good pursuit and angles at Alabama to make plays against the run both sideline-to-sideline and coming downhill. Statistically, Thompson didn’t have the turnover rate you’d like to see from a player with his range, athletic ability Emmitt Smith Jersey , and instincts, but he was very productive in college and was rarely tested in his four years at Alabama. With his athletic ability, range, centerfield ability, and the ability to play the run, Deionte Thompson would be an ideal option for the Cowboys at free safety. Will he make it to them at 58th overall is the only question. Johnathan Abram - Mississippi State - 5’11” 205-lbsPhoto by Jonathan Bachman/Getty ImagesWe talked about the versatile guy, we talked about the free safety ball hawk, now let’s talk about the hard-nosed box safety in Mississippi State Johnathan Abram. When evaluating Johnathan Abram you come away very excited. Abram is a dude who makes his presence felt in the box at and around the line of scrimmage, but when it comes to his deep coverage/ball skills they are practically nonexistent. But again, that’s not what you’re drafting him for.It would be hard to find a safety who enforces the middle of the field at the level that Abram did at Mississippi State. Abram showcased adequate range, making plays sideline-to-sideline, but showed his best work when working downhill against the run. He brings an insane amount of energy to the playing field, a nasty attitude to a defense with his big hit ability, and competitive toughness. While asking Abram to play as a deep safety would be a huge mistake, he did show some ability to cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. Abram improved each year cleaning up his technique as a tackler, which is one reason he is being considered as an early day two option at strong safety. If the Cowboys did draft Johnathan Abram at 58th overall, they would be committing to Xavier Woods as their free safety, but would now have a true strong safety to stop Jared Goff from picking up 10 yards on 3rd and 7 in the NFC Divisional Round game...Next week we’ll take a look at three cornerbacks the Cowboys could target with the 58th overall pick. Be sure to check back in as we go through these position groups for the Cowboys to target with the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Times change and the best sports organizations change with them."A couple of days sgo, my good friend R.J. Ochoa authored an article noting the speculation that Ezekiel Elliott could get as much as $14-$16 million per year in his next contract. Zeke is thought of as the best at his position along with one or two other players, so topping out the pay scale for the running back position is in line with conventional thinking. If the Dallas Cowboys follow conventional thinking, it would be a mistake. Behind the scenes here at BTB, there has been a spirited debate among the writers about what the Cowboys should do with Zeke’s next contract. One camp holds that Zeke is a generational-type back, and that since the Cowboys spent such a high pick on him, they absolutely should pay for his services. The other camp, one I’m admittedly in, thinks Dallas should only re-sign Zeke if it comes on a team-friendly contract. If Zeke is intent on breaking the bank for running backs, the Cowboys should move on.Here is the requisite disclaimer: Most of us that are skeptical about giving Zeke a huge new contract recognize that his talents are elite and that he’s done everything the Cowboys have asked of him. Personally, I love his enthusiasm and passion for the game, and his infectious personality. This has absolutely nothing to do with Zeke as a player and everything to do with the position he plays. Our own OCC has written extensively in past years showing that the NFL in a passing league with the requisite stats to go with it. When the Cowboys took Zeke fourth overall I was on board Emmitt Smith Jersey White , but have come around to doubting that decision. There’s no shame in evolving and changing one’s mind. I grew up with football that was predicated on a great running back. Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith, obviously. Around the league a workhorse back who could dominate a game was the preferred method of offense. That changed when the rules were changed, when offensive schemes expanded, and forward-thinking stat-heads showed that passing was the way.Yesterday, Reid Hanson at Sport DFW wrote a definitive piece for the side of the argument that believes you don’t pay running backs big money, even if they are generational talents. He lays out the five myths of the running game and sets to destroying them. I recommend reading it.The role of the NFL running back and the current transformation of the role of the NBA center are similar in many ways. Like the NFL and the running back a generation ago, the monstrous NBA center used to rule the roost in that game. That has changed as rules have changed and stat-heads have also shown that nothing means more than the three-point shot. -Much like the rule changes in the NFL that favored the offense generally, and the passing game specifically, the NBA is experiencing the same kind of revolution, with the Golden State Warriors as the epitome of that change. This change, much like what happened to the running back, has changed the big man’s role in the game, and his value. The analogy is not a perfect one. In the NBA, big men have learned to mimic the small men, and some of them shoot the three and handle the ball as well as any guard. In the NFL, a running back can approximate a wide receiver to some degree, but is generally a poor imitation of that position. A three is a three no matter who shoots it in basketball. But in football, if you line up a running back out wide, you might as well just use a real wide receiver. That’s not to say the traditional running back doesn’t still hold some value in the game. They do. You still need to run the ball. We don’t know what Kellen Moore will do with this offense, Zeke’s role could change. The Cowboys may not feed him as much as they used to, and/or they may utilize his receiving skills more than they used to. We just don’t know yet. How Moore utilizes Elliott could have a lot to do with his upcoming contact negotiations. The Cowboys also have leverage with franchise tags.As Hasnon noted in the article referenced above, one of the Cowboys 30 pre-draft visits is Alabama running back Damien Harris. He’s no marginal talent. The Cowboys prize those pre-draft visits, his presence on the list could be an indication about the future. Zeke is a fantastic football player. He’s done nothing but give his best to the Cowboys and it would hurt tremendously to see him on another team making plays. Not getting him on a second contract would also be a poor use of that high draft pick spent on him. Still, unless he is willing to sign for a team-friendly deal, the Cowboys should move on to the new NFL. The passing NFL. Zeke isn’t replaceable, but his position is. It’s hard to hold back the tides of change. Zeke is a workhorse, it’s too bad his position no longer is.

OverviewOn October 21 Malik Hooker Jersey White , 2018 the Indianapolis Colts will host the Oakland Raiders. In this week eight match up I sought to understand our opponent and get a better idea of how they may attack our new look Colts. The last time these two teams faced off in 2016, Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and DeAndre Washington ran in two more while Andrew Luck threw two touchdowns of his own but was intercepted twice as well. Those interceptions are interceptions all the same, but if it makes a difference to you, the reader, Andrew Luck was playing with a torn Labrum. This match up will provide two teams in vastly different situations this time around. Hopefully the outcome will also be vastly different. Let’s figure out what we can expect in week eightOffensive Scheme Offenses led by Jon Gruden are infamous for many things, and famous for a few other things. Chiefly among those famous things are Gruden’s West Coast offense and the complexity of that system. Last week the Colts faced a Bills team that was very much trying to protect its quarterback. The passing concepts were simplified, the reads the quarterback was responsible for making were quick, easy reads. The Bills knew they were limited so they attempted to tailor their offense to the talent they have. Jon Gruden is infamous for having never been able to effectively modify his system to the talent he has to work with. During his coaching career Gruden’s starting quarterbacks are an average of 34 years old. In 2018, 34 doesn’t sound that old when some of the best quarterbacks currently playing the game are in their late 30’s but in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, 34 for nearly any quarterback was old. Gruden has consistently ousted young, promising passers and replaced them with quarterbacks in their mid 30’s. He’s had some success doing this in his career. While Derek Carr isn’t the next coming of Peyton Manning, it would be foolish to get rid of him — but Gruden seems to be unwilling to work with the young passer to mold an offense around him and it’s becoming evident. Spider 2 Y Banana:Gruden breaks down this play here:Now, there are differences given the formation and one of the routes run, but make no mistake, this was 90% the same as the play he draws up for Marcus Mariota. Carr had one read and it was to throw this ball to the receiver who went in motion. The other routes on this play were a diversion but it’s impossible to know that in the moment. Spider 2 Y Banana isn’t just a funny Gruden meme, it’s really Gruden’s favorite play and he has some very interesting ways to work this high-low passing concept into his game plan.4-Verts:Gruden is a West Coast offense guy at his core but so far he’s shown a diverse offense in his return to the sideline. He will often work in Air Raid concepts and even though 4-verts isn’t an Air Raid invention Darius Leonard Jersey , this does show his willingness to push the ball down the field and take shots when he feels the time is right. I also noticed many more wide receiver screens than I expected from a Gruden team. You’ve probably seen this play:Well, maybe you haven’t seen this play but you’ve seen plays similar from multiple teams this season. Yes, Gruden is stealing plays and that’s okay, because it’s football. Everyone steals from everyone. With that said it’s interesting enough to note, if you’ve seen an interesting, successful play design there’s a very real chance Jon Gruden is trying to figure out how to use it for the Raiders. This play would have been difficult for the Dolphins to defend, but had they stayed in their assigned gaps, they would have had a real shot to make a stop for a short gain. I wasn’t in the room when Gruden drew this one up but I believe the receiver this ball was thrown to was the first option on this play. I believe that because all of the other routes are working to ensure he gets open. The back coming out on his route makes the outside linebacker on his side of the field position himself wide, to prevent the back from having an advantage in the flat. On the backside both receivers run five yard ins and are designed to pull the linebackers up. The tight end runs a post away from everyone. All of these routes are working together to create a throwing lane and an open receiver. Had the defense not reacted how they hoped, Carr would have worked through his reads and there were enough options available, he could have still created positive yards. This is a well designed play. Throwing lanes can be created many ways:Once again, Gruden tried to create a throwing lane by making linebackers step up instead of back into coverage with play action. The idea is the same, a receiver goes deep to stretch the deep defenders over the top and the linebackers look to stop the run and Jordy Nelson is open because of it. Jon Gruden’s offense isn’t a bad one. There are a lot of well designed plays but there seems to be a disconnect. I chose a lot of really successful plays against a defense that is similar to the one the Colts run. I didn’t pick a lot of mistakes because that’s what the next few sections of this article are for. Quarterback: Derek Carr is on pace to throw 22 interceptions this year. He’s never thrown more than 13 in any season in his five year career. The craziest part of that stat; he’s completing nearly 72% of his passes which is around 8% higher than his next best season. So what’s wrong with Derek Carr? That’s a complicated answer. To start, his protection has been bad. It’s tough for any quarterback to play well behind a porous line and Carr is no exception to that rule. The second part of “what’s wrong with Carr” is at best, my opinion. It is my opinion that Jon Gruden is coaching Carr into the ground. Carr is completing more than 70%—that’s insane. That’s also a sign that Gruden is dialing up a lot of quick, short throws. During his career Carr hasn’t turned the ball over Peyton Manning Jersey , why is he doing it now? In my opinion it’s because he’s struggling to understand what to do with what he’s seeing. If a quarterback understands how to read a defense and progress through his reads, traits Carr has previously shown, then he just needs to understand where to go with the ball given what he’s seeing. Derek Carr isn’t sure where he needs to go with the ball given Gruden’s system. If you combine that with shaky line play and you get a lot of plays like this:And on occasion if everything works out just like Gruden planned it:Ultimately this isn’t an issue that’s going to get fixed before Sunday’s kick off. I don’t believe this is Derek Carr’s fault and I think whatever team Carr is playing for next season is getting a good quarterback as long as his next coach is willing to work with Carr and develop a system for him. Hopefully whatever mid-30’s quarterback Gruden brings in next season has more luck. Running Back:We all know Marshawn Lynch, but he landed on injured reserve earlier in the week. In his place Doug Martin, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington will look to fill in. Doug Martin looks to be the starter and at times has looked like the Doug Martin of old:As of right now, the Raiders don’t have any backs on the roster averaging more than 3.7 yards per carry. Losing Lynch hurts this backfield as no one is sure what the Raiders have in Martin. Before off field issues creeped in on his career, Martin looked like a long-term option for the Bucs. Instead he’s trying to resurrect a promising career and I’m not sure any team needs to be worried about the Raiders rushing attack. Pass Catchers: I would talk a lot about Amari Cooper but he plays for the Cowboys. Tight End, Jared Cook is leading the team with 32 receptions for 400 yards. Normally I talk about running backs above, but Jalen Richard is second on the team with 31 catches, he may line up in the backfield but he’s a major pass catching option for the Raiders. Jordy Nelson, Martavis Bryant and Seth Roberts will all see increased time with Cooper elsewhere. Nelson has been their most consistent downfield option which is odd considering he’s 33 years old. Bryant is a deep threat but with only 14 catches and no touchdowns Matt Eberflus isn’t losing any sleep. Offensive Line: The starters from left to right: Kolton Miller, Jon Feliciano, Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson and Brandon Parker. Normally I spend a lot of time breaking down each of the five starters, instead I just want to talk about Miller and Parker. I know I’m not some sort of football savant. I know I don’t know all there is to know about the game or player evaluation. During the events that lead up to the draft I don’t have access to player interviews with the teams, I don’t know what guys are like mentally or emotionally. There’s just a lot I don’t know. With that said Darius Leonard Jersey White , I believed that Kolton Miller was at best a second round pick that would need a lot of time to develop and I believed that Parker was a good athlete who really needed to learn to play the game at an NFL level. I believed he was a day three pick. Instead the Raiders took Miller 15th overall and they selected Parker with the first pick in the 3rd round. The Colts are starting two rookies on their offensive line. Think about how good the Colts line has looked protecting Andrew Luck, then watch the video below and take a minute to say a few nice things out loud about Chris Ballard and his ability to evaluate offensive line play. Kemoko Turay could have a big day and I can’t wait. What to Expect from the Colts Defense: I believe we can expect more of the same. If anything we’re going to see more stunting to try to confuse and defeat what is a bad offensive line. I believe we’re going to see some schemed open receivers and as long as the Colts defensive backs keep the play in front of them and make solid tackles they’re going to be able to look good against this overly complex, unexecutable offense. The Buffalo Bills thought Derek Anderson might be the solution to their offensive struggles. He wasn't.They tried putting offensive coordinator Brian Daboll on the field for the first time. It didn't help.Instead, the turnovers mounted, the scoring chances waned, and the Bills wound up talking about an all-too-familiar result Sunday: Indianapolis 37, Buffalo 5."I'm not going to pout about it. Like I said, I expect more from myself," Anderson said after making his first start since December 2016. "I came here to help this team win football games in any way that I can. Obviously today I played and it wasn't good enough."While Anderson understandably blamed himself after throwing three interceptions and losing a fumble, which the Colts converted into 24 points, there was plenty of blame to go around. The short-handed Bills (2-5) couldn't sustain drives, were forced to throw out of desperation, and again failed to score a touchdown. It was that kind of day for a team that started the season with bigger goals than just reaching the playoffs this year. Now the Bills have lost two straight, three of four and are trying to figure out how in a high-scoring league they've managed to produce just two touchdowns and 31 points over their last four games. They have a league-low 81 points in seven games and showed no indication of breaking out of the funk against a defense that played without two starters and had allowed 117 points in its previous three games — against the Texans, Patriots and Jets."There were some moments out there where I thought he (Anderson) executed well, and then there were times out there where we didn't execute well and turned it over Youth John Simon Jersey ," coach Sean McDermott said. "We have to hit the reset button, look at the film and learn from it."And it could get worse. The Bills had only four active receivers available after leaving Ray-Ray McCloud III at home for a "non-injury reason."Josh Allen's injured right elbow gave McDermott only one other option at quarterback, turnover-prone Nathan Peterman, who was benched after last week's loss.Buffalo also lost LeSean McCoy to a head injury on the game's second play and McDermott said it was unclear whether McCoy would be cleared through the concussion protocol in time for next Monday's game against New England."It's so different playing with the lead, we've said that. We've talked about it this week. Andrew (Luck) and I talked about it," Colts coach Frank Reich said. "We don't want to be conservative. We want to still be aggressive, but let's not do anything early and kind of blow things up."Indy executed its game plan perfectly, ending a four-game losing streak with its most lopsided win in five years. And yet the Bills' offense couldn't even ding the Colts' defense.Buffalo never led Sunday and has rarely played with more than a one-score lead over the past month, prompting may to contemplate changes. Getting healthy might help. Consistency and reducing the turnovers certainly would. While Luck finished 17 of 23 with 156 yards and four touchdown passes on a day Indy's ground game churned out 220 yards, Anderson wound up 20 of 31 with 175 yards with no touchdowns and all those turnovers.Kelvin Benjamin caught four passes for 71 yards, getting 32 on one play. No other receiver topped 25 yards as Chris Ivory and Marcus Murphy tried valiantly to fill the void left by McCoy.It wasn't nearly enough."Those guys did a great job stepping in for LeSean," Anderson said. "But as a whole, to kind of summarize it, we can't turn the ball over. We have to execute. When we cross the 50, we have to get points."

Recap: Episode 3 of Cleveland Browns on HBO’s Hard Knocks The third episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks Bernie Kosar Jersey White , featuring the Cleveland Browns, took place Tuesday night. Let’s recap the major storylines that were on display.Jarvis Landry vs. Terrance Mitchell FightLast week, we knew about the fight between WR Jarvis Landry and CB Terrance Mitchell in practice, but the hightlight of Hard Knocks came when they captured the build-up to the scrum and then the incident itself, along with the reactions of fellow players and coaches.Todd Haley vs. Gregg WilliamsJust a little friendly ribbing, right?Brad Paisley Visits BereaCountry singer Brad Paisley has been a Browns fan since third grade, and although he didn’t know Joel Bitonio by face, he was eager to see Baker Mayfield. Paisley asked GM John Dorsey if Mayfield reminded him of a Brett Favre, to which Dorsey said he understands why people see those attributes in him, but that that association has to be earned. WR Jarvis Landry said he was a Paisley fan, and then the money part of the segment came when defensive coordinator Gregg Williams met him.Players Digging Baker MayfieldThe segment about QB Tyrod Taylor was about how to pronounce his name, which we’ve heard about to death now. When it came time to focus on QB Baker Mayfield, he gave Brad Paisley a tour of the RV, and then had a package shown of good throws in practice with compliments from his peers:Brogan Roback Slides Into DM’sAnother week, and another segment dedicated to QB Brogan Roback, talking about sliding into Instagram DM’s and then seeing butterflies and chameleons.Dez Bryant in the FacilityEven if the Browns didn’t sign WR Dez Bryant (yet), a segment of the episode was focused on him meeting everyone in Berea. He said he liked the “realness” that he felt from Cleveland when meeting with the team. The previews for next week’s episode make it seem like there will be a little more on Bryant.Other NotesAlonzo Highsmith loves the energy he sees from the players, and thinks he sees similarities to when the Cowboys turned things around from 1-15.Offensive line coach Bob Wylie talked about stretching being overrated, and the only reason he likes it is because it gives him 10 minutes to sit down. There was an embrace between head coach Hue Jackson and wide receiver Corey Coleman before the Bills game.DE Nate Orchard and his roster spot being in jeopardy was featured early, but then the gameday footage and coaches reaction of him missing the quarterback with clean shots was rough. You can tell that the three “underdog” players that the show has chosen to focus on at QB Brogan Roback, TE Devon Cajuste Jarvis Landry Jersey White , and Orchard.WR Josh Gordon’s return will be a focal point of Episode 4 next week, as will Mychal Kendricks giving a motivational speech as Cleveland gets set to take on Philadelphia. PARIS (AP) — Runaway leader Paris Saint-Germain will be without striker Edinson Cavani and winger Julian Draxler against bitter rival Marseille on Sunday, a clash between France’s two biggest clubs.PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said on Saturday that Cavani, who featured in the 3-1 loss to Manchester United last week in the Champions League despite a hip injury, has not recovered for the match at the Parc des Princes.Draxler is hampered by a thigh injury. In the absence of Brazil star Neymar Cheap Atletico Madrid Soccer Jerseys , who is also out injured, France striker Kylian Mbappe is expected to lead the attack while Dani Alves returns from suspension.Known as “Le Classique,” the match between PSG and Marseille became popular during the 1990s when the arrival of foreign stars such as Rai, Rudi Voeller and George Weah started a strong rivalry heavily promoted by the clubs’ respective owners — Bernard Tapie at Marseille and Canal Plus at PSG.With Marseille no longer among the favorites for the title Cheap Barcelona Soccer Jerseys , the matchup has lost some interest in recent years. But with PSG still reeling from its shock elimination at the hands of United and Mario Balotelli back to his best, this weekend’s fixture has more appeal.Italy striker Balotelli has scored five goals in seven games to help Marseille get back in contention for the European places.“They are in form and have won many of their last matches,” Tuchel said. “They have gained confidence, they play with more quality Cheap Bayern Munich Soccer Shirts , it will be complicated and we will need to be at our best.”PSG has a 17-point lead at the top of the league and is expected to win a sixth title in seven years. Fourth-placed Marseille is unbeaten since early February and the team’s good performances in recent weeks have dragged the team back in the hunt for a Champions League place.

The Chargers have had to work hard Derwin James Color Rush Jersey , but they do have the halftime lead.Keenan Allen‘s 4-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers with 2:39 remaining in the second quarter has the Chargers in the locker room with a 13-7 advantage.Allen was penalized for using a fan’s championship belt to celebrate.Los Angeles also got two field goals from Michael Badgley, who is 17-for-17 on all kicks this season. He made field goals of 46 and 45 yards and a PAT.The Chargers’ 25 missed kicks since 2017 are the most in the NFL in that span. However, the Chargers’ special teams did cost them a second consecutive week. A week after Raiders punter Johnny Townsend ran for 42 yards on a fake punt, the Chargers watched Broncos punter Colby Wadman throw a pass to fullback Andy Janovich for a 12-yard gain on fourth-and-five. It resulted in the Broncos’ only touchdown as Phillip Lindsay ran for a 41-yard touchdown on the next play. The Broncos Russell Okung Color Rush Jersey , though, have struggled to move the ball. They have only six first downs and 131 yards as Case Keenum has completed 9 of 17 passes for 56 yards. The Denver defense has kept the Broncos in the game, with three sacks of Rivers, including one by Von Miller and one by Bradley Chubb Junior Seau Color Rush Jersey , and a Chris Harris interception of Rivers. Rivers is 14-of-24 for 231 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Mike Williams has two catches for 56 yards and Allen five for 52 yards and a touchdown as six different players have caught passes. Tyrell Williams made 41 catches for 653 yards and five total touchdowns in 2018, giving him 155 receptions for 2,530 yards and 17 total touchdowns in his four seasons with the Chargers. He was not the No. 1 receiver on the Chargers, but he believes he’s a No. 1 receiver and would love a chance to prove it.“I definitely feel like I’m a No. 1 receiver Desmond King Color Rush Jersey ,” Williams said, via Eric Williams of ESPN. “So I want to make sure that I clean up all of the little things in route running and blocking, to make sure I solidify myself as a No. 1.”Williams becomes a free agent in March, so Corey Liuget Color Rush Jersey , barring a new deal with the Chargers before then, he will get a chance to see if anyone else agrees. The Chargers want him back, but with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, Tyrell Williams likely gets more money by going elsewhere.“We’ll see [what happens] Dan Feeney Color Rush Jersey ,” Williams said. “You never know. I’m just going to let my agent take care of it and try and enjoy these next, couple months.”

ATLANTA (AP) — For towering tight end Tony Gonzalez, this was a slam dunk. The 6-foot-5 Gonzalez, who turned the celebratory post-TD dunk over the crossbar into an art form, was voted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday.Joining him will be two more first-time nominees, Champ Bailey and Ed Reed, along with another defensive back, Ty Law, and center Kevin Mawae; Law and Mawae were both in their third year as finalists. The contributor nominees, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and Cowboys and NFL executive Gil Brandt , each made it, as did senior Johnny Robinson, the defensive back who helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl 4.Gonzalez started in Kansas City and finished in Atlanta, where voters met on the eve of the Super Bowl to select the Class of 2019; they didn't need much time to debate his worthiness. In short Trey Flowers Jersey , Gonzalez had more than his fair share of chances to jam. (Maybe not by accident, the NFL banned the practice in 2014, the year after he retired.)The most prolific pass catcher at his position over a 17-year career, Gonzalez caught 1,325 passes (second in NFL history) for 15,127 yards (sixth) and 111 touchdowns. He was a six-time All-Pro, made 14 Pro Bowls, and his 916 catches with the Chiefs set one of 22 franchise records he held upon his retirement."I knew I had a good chance, I'm not going to lie about that," he said. "Still, when you hear the knock, your heart drops."As it turns out, Gonzalez isn't the only one who can get good air."Threw my phone across the room," Mawae said, of his reaction upon learning he was in. "I had a higher vertical than at the combine."He'll be donning the yellow jacket this summer alongside Gonzalez, and three players who spent part of their careers trying to stop the groundbreaking tight end. This marks the first time more than two defensive backs have made it in the same class.Bailey played 15 years — five with Washington, then 10 more with Denver after the Redskins swapped him for Clinton Portis. Like so many great cornerbacks Deatrich Wise Jr Color Rush Jersey , Bailey did not rewrite the record book, in part because he was, for a huge chunk of his career, considered the best cover guy in the league. So most quarterbacks simply avoided him.Still, he made three All-Pro teams, 12 Pro Bowls and a none-too-shabby 52 interceptions. His best-remembered pick was a 103-yard return against Tom Brady in the 2006 playoffs that did not go for a touchdown. Denver did score shortly afterward, though, on the way to the win. Eight years later, Bailey made his only Super Bowl."This is home and timing was just right for it," said Bailey, who grew up in Folkston and played college ball at Georgia. "Having Pat Bowlen go in, I never expected it to be like this."Reed won his only title in the 2012 season, his last with the Ravens. Running the defense from his safety position, he was a standout playmaker on a roster full of them — including Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Peter Boulware. Reed finished his career with 64 interceptions, and led the league in picks three times."Smartest player I ever coached," said Reed's former coach https://www.patriotsfanstore.com/Rex-Burkhead-Jersey , Brian Billick.Law was a lot like Bailey — a rock at the corner who quarterbacks avoided. He finished with 53 interceptions and three Super Bowl rings, all with the Patriots. When New England beat the Rams for its first title in 2002, Law returned a pick 47 yards for a score that gave the Patriots the lead in the second quarter; they didn't trail after that.Law was one of the many high-profile players Bill Belichick was willing to cycle out, and his final five years were spent with Kansas City, Denver and two stints with the Jets, including 2005, when he made a career-high 10 interceptions."It's surreal to get this honor while my former team is playing," said Law, who will be on hand when the Patriots play the Rams for the title Sunday.Mawae, a second-round draft pick in 1994, played 16 seasons for the Seahawks, Jets and Titans. He made three All-Pro teams and joins Mike Webster, Dwight Stevenson and Jim Otto among the few true centers in Canton. He earned a spot some thought might go instead to Jaguars left tackle Tony Boselli. But for Boselli, Edgerrin James, John Lynch, Richard Seymour and six others, it's wait 'til next year.Bowlen goes in after what some believe was a longer-than-necessary wait. He is suffering from Alzheimer's disease James Harrison Jersey , which has put the future of the Broncos' franchise on uncertain ground. His youngest daughter, Annabel, said they face-timed their dad when the family received the news."A lot of tears in the room," she said.Bowlen was key in securing the NFL's future via a number of multibillion-dollar TV contracts. The Broncos have largely prospered during his tenure, winning more than 60 percent of their games. That included the 1998 Super Bowl, when the owner famously shouted "This one's for John" — a tribute to John Elway winning his first title.Brandt spent 29 years with the Cowboys, where his keen eye for talent helped turn Dallas into "America's Team." He chose eight future Hall of Famers, including Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly and Bob Hayes. He employed computers for evaluating talent and came up with psychological tests for draft prospects, two tools no NFL team could do without in the modern game.Brandt also was elected for his role as the NFL's resident draft guru.Robinson was chosen by the Dallas Texans in the first AFL draft. The Texans became the Chiefs, and the Chiefs became Super Bowl champions. A teammate of his, Hall of Fame linebacker Willie Lanier, said Robinson was the key to a defense that helped Kansas City to two AFL titles, each of which landed the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team, Compete for PrizesPlay Now!

The Rams have wasted no time flexing their muscles against the 49ers. They needed only 3:03 to take a 7-0 lead.Mark Barron forced 49ers running back Kyle Juszczyk to fumble Sean Mannion Color Rush Jersey , and Aqib Talib returned it 47 yards to the San Francisco 7. George Kittle‘s tackle prevented Talib from scoring. The Rams offense took care of the rest, though, with Brandin Cooks catching a 3-yard pass from Jared Goff.It was only the fourth touchdown of the season for Cooks and his first since Nov. 4 against New Orleans.Only 56 seconds later, the Rams had another takeaway. Dante Fowler Jr. hit the arm of Nick Mullens https://www.ramsfanstore.com/Aaron-Donald-Jersey , and Cory Littleton intercepted the duck. Littleton returned it 22 yards to the San Francisco 13.Rams running back C.J. Anderson scored on a 1-yard run with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter. They lead 14-0.The Rams are off to a good start as they seek a victory to assure a bye next week as the No. 2 seed. The 2014 Georgia Bulldogs had such a loaded running back depth chart that both of this year’s Super Bowl starting running backs were on the team — and neither was the Bulldogs’ leading rusher.Now-Rams running back Todd Gurley had 911 rushing yards for Georgia that year and now-Patriots running back Sony Michel added 410 yards. Now-Browns running back Nick Chubb led the team in rushing with 1,547 yards.Gurley was the oldest of the bunch, and he says that he mentored Michel, who didn’t impress him much when first arriving on campus.鈥淚 remember when he first came in John Sullivan Color Rush Jersey , he couldn鈥檛 run and catch,鈥?Gurley said. 鈥淚 had to teach him how to do all that stuff.鈥滸urley joked that he might end up regretting helping Michel develop as a player, if Michel plays well against the Rams on Sunday.鈥淗opefully everything I taught him, he doesn鈥檛 do it and he just plays like he used to play before I taught him everything Todd Gurley Color Rush Jersey ,” Gurley said.Gurley is proud of Michel’s success, but doesn’t want it to come at the expense of the Rams.

The New England Patriots handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the 2018 season in an epic showdown on Sunday Night Football. Tom Brady and company won with a final score of 43-40 since neither team decided to bring a defense to the game. The Patriots offense has been a different beast since week 4 Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey , thanks to the inclusion of Josh Gordon, the emergence of Sony Michel, and the return of Julian Edelman, all of which allow Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan to be more productive. These five players, along with James White, have carried the offense and should continue to thrive for the rest of the year.Should we be concerned about the defense? How many teams can match the offensive potential of the Chiefs? Can the Patriots make any improvements on their own?Alec and Rich cover it all. This podcast is available in the iTunes store, Stitcher, TuneIn Jeremy Hill Color Rush Jersey , BluBrry, Podcast Mirror and via RSS Feed. Please subscribe and comment on what you want to hear about in future podcasts! The New England Patriots had plenty of problems against the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday, ranging from the offense failing to get into any sort of rhythm to the team shooting itself in the foot with penalties. One of the major issues during their 17-10 loss, however, was a familiar one that has plagued the Patriots during each of their last three games: the defense’s inability to stop the opposing running game.On Sunday, Pittsburgh became the latest team to dominate New England on the ground. Despite missing James Connor — the team’s best running back and offensive leader in yards from scrimmage — due to injury, the Steelers attempted 25 rushes (two of which kneel-downs) and gained a combined 158 yards. This, in turn https://www.patriotsfanstore.com/Isaiah-Wynn-Jersey , allowed the home team to dictate the game’s tempo especially during its first two quarters. On the day, New England surrendered 6.3 yards per rush, marking the third straight game that the opposing offense gained more than 6 yards on an average carry — which is obviously bad. In fact, it is historically bad: no team in Patriots franchise history ever allowed more yards per rushing attempt over a three-week stretch than what the club’s 2018 version is currently giving up (7.5 yards per attempt). But how can the porous run defense be fixed with only two weeks left in the regular season? There is likely not one quick solution, but re-inserting defensive tackle Danny Shelton into the lineup might be a start. The offseason trade acquisition — New England sent a third round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Shelton and a fifth-round selection — was a regular member of the Patriots’ rotation at the position but was inactive over the last three games.New England’s defensive game planning likely played a role in the decision to sit a healthy Shelton, a big-bodied defender whose strengths lie in the running game: the Patriots sold out to stop the pass against the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers and went with lighter defensive fronts and nickel and dime packages — defensive groups that the three teams gladly attacked on the ground.Yesterday, according to NESN’s Doug Kyed Danny Etling Color Rush Jersey , the Steelers ran 11 times against the Patriots’ dime package and gained 106 yards in the process. Pittsburgh gained 20 yards on five attempts versus New England’s nickel defense, and 32 yards on six carries against base sets. Without Shelton and a viable rotation at the defensive tackle position, teams exposed the Patriots in the middle of the field.Bringing the run-stuffer back could help, and also lift pressure off a group of defensive tackles that currently is not winning at the point of attack. Lawrence Guy is solid but had issues with consistency yesterday. Adam Butler is primarily an interior pass rusher and has deficiencies against the run. And Malcom Brown, a run-first player in the same basic mold of Shelton, has regressed noticeably over the course of the season. The last three weeks, New England apparently felt that the trio would still be enough to slow offenses down — and the plan worked to a certain degree. Despite surrendering 95 yards on 13 carries to the Vikings, the Patriots defense played a very good overall game and held the unit to just 10 points. The Dolphins gained 189 yards on 21 runs but still needed a last-second Hail Mary play to come away victoriously. The Steelers also “only” won by seven points: had the Patriots offense not played one of its worst games of the season https://www.patriotsfanstore.com , the plan might have worked yesterday as well at least when looking at it from a bottom line-perspective. Alas, it did not, and Pittsburgh was able to find favorable matchups against the light and undersized defensive front seven and safety Patrick Chung essentially serving as an extra linebacker. The next two weeks — with games against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets coming up — the Patriots will likely go back to more nickel and base looks on defense and as a result improve against the run again. But the underlying issues will still not go away with a different game plan: the defensive tackles are slow to create upfield push and disengage from blockers in one-on-one situations.Maybe Shelton can serve as a quick fix over the next two+ games, and maybe this will help the other defensive tackles as well and have a trickle-down effect on the rest of the defense. But one thing is obvious: the Patriots will need to upgrade the interior of the defensive line next offseason. The questions is whether or not the current group of guys can do enough to break its historic streak of bad performances — and play winning football in the postseason.
