2012 2013 FC Internazionale preview

Tuesday  28th August,

Summer 2012, Inter have been through a renovation system both in sporting direction and in club management.

At the end of last season Andrea Stramaccioni the 36 year old coach of the U19 (winners of the Italian league and European U19 Nextgen series) was promoted to the senior team…to stay.

Throughout the summer the General Manager and  Team Manager have been replaced and a few Treble players have been retired. The outcome is Inter’s aims this season are:

-       Nurture a successful young manager

-       Rejuvenate

-       Decrease wage bill

-       Create value form the Academy

-       Use transfer market wisely (no more big name splashing out)

-       Be successful with the available resources

-       Build a new stadium

-       Find new investors

The rejuvenation process has started. Average age decreased from just below 30 to 26.9 years.

The wage bill decreased by reducing the number of senior players renegotiating to lower the wages the new contracts (Lucio, Cordoba, Forlan, Zarate, Pazzini tio name a few) and the jury is out for Julio cesar (very likely) and Maicon (probable).

A couple of the Academy players have been brought to the senior squad (Livaja, MBaye, Duncan, Bianchetti)and a couple have been sent to for regular playing elsewhere (Longo, Romano, Crisetig, Bardi, Alborno).

The transfers have been one IN one OUT. And the replacements have been dictade by Stramaccioni’s sporting requests. The key ones: 1 keeper (Hanadanovic) 1 CB (Silvestre) 1 wingback (Pereira), 2 holding midfielders (Gargano, Mudingayi) 2 Forwards (Cassano, Palacio)

Straamccioni Sporting project  aims at: 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1, 3-5-2 and has only kept 1 CF Milito. All the other CFs have been sold. The project is possession football and passing game he has opted not to have big strong strikers in the box.

Be successful we shall see, surely this style of football requires that Inter play good passing and have a lot of speed and aggression in midfield thus we expect Cambiasso and Stankovic to share the role in the holding midfield role,

Inter president Massimo Moratti Is pushing for the new stadium and has hired Fassone who negotiated the early project approvals for the Juventus stadium back in early 2000. Additionally has agreed a pre nuptial agreement with the Chinese Railway Construction Corporation for the execution and the concurrent investment in Inter (probably in the form of warrants of equity based service agreements through a third party company).

Rumours

Maicon,(M.City, R.Madrid)
Julio Cesar (Tottenham, QPR, M.Utd)

Inter inaugurated the season the 26th evening @Pescara. A newly promoted side. Last year’s surprise package with wily Manager Zeman who has now joined Roma in the summer and their 3 key players moving to their next stages of their careers Verratti (see scouting report) joining the oil rich PSG, Immobile going to Genoa FC and Insigne replacing Lavezzi at Napoli.

Pescara were very eager to do well and their fans were over eager with many reports of abuse to travelling fans. The result was 3-0 win for Inter. Sneijder, Milito, Coutinho.

Very interesting attacking football. Cassano was the surpise starter 2 days after signing from ACMilan and Gargano and Guarin were very impressive in midfield. Pick of the lot however remained Sneijder and Milito both netting a goal but most impressively Milito with 2 assists.

A good start against a relegation contending opponent is not an indication of strength, however it shows that last year’s weakness and lack of pace is now in the past.

The next test is @home to Roma this coming Sunday the 2nd of Sep.

Seasonal expectation is that it will be a roller coaster emotional ride hopefully not a roller coaster results ride. Stramaccioni’s was known in the Academy for his motivational and tactical skills, can he repeat this at senior level.

The league opponents are Juventus (favs), Napoli, Roma (par to Inter) and as dark horses I would include Fiorentina. Milan have lost a lot of talent and experience unless they can pull a couple of rabbits from the hat during this last transfer market week this may be a dire season for the town rivals.

Europa League: Inter have been through almost 2 rounds (return leg on 30th Aug) and are among the favorites for this tournament.

Season Objective: silverware, increase value of squad and manager

Still much to do to become a powerhouse again.
